According to Jordan Bianchi, “they’re adamant about it”: NASCAR’s pursuit of Mexico City is delaying the 2025 calendar.

Over the last few weeks, there has been conjecture regarding the release date of the NASCAR 2025 season schedule. Journalist Jordan Bianchi claims that there is one specific reason why the schedule hasn’t been released yet and is experiencing delays.

In a recent interview on Dirty Mo Media, Bianchi discussed the topic of the upcoming NASCAR season schedule and disclosed that the reason it hasn’t been released yet is because of talks regarding the speculated international fixtures.

Currently, obtaining the international date is the hold-up. NASCAR is now in talks with Mexico City in Montreal in order to include a foreign event in the calendar for the following year. This is their declared objective, and they’re pretty adamant about it,” Bianchi remarked. [30 minutes in]

He added that the teams also want to have an overseas race on the schedule, and NASCAR is working “really, really hard” to make it happen.

“Everyone involved in this is encouraged, they’re enthusiastic, they’re hopeful, that this is going to be the case, but here we are in August, it still hasn’t happened yet. They want to get that on the timetable. And the schedule won’t be released until that component is finalised,” he continued.

Recall that a few weeks prior, reporter Bob Pockrass offered his opinion on the release date of the schedule.NASCAR may reveal the calendar in August, according to Pockrass, who stated on X (previously Twitter) that “it changes regularly.” However, he did not confirm a specific date for the release of the schedule.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. unhappy with NASCAR exploring international venues in favour of conventional circuits

Speaking on his podcast earlier this year, Dale Earnhardt Jr. expressed his annoyance about NASCAR substituting overseas dates for conventional venues.

“You know, there’s nothing wrong with Richmond, yet we’re leaving town to go race in Mexico. We’re going to race a road course instead of all these conventional ovals,” Junior declared.

Junior expressed his growing dissatisfaction with NASCAR’s decision to replace historic racetracks and locations with more modern ones. He said that following what he considered to be “a really tough race” at Richmond earlier this year, he had predicted that NASCAR would remove the race from the calendar for Mexico.

And that appears to be where NASCAR is going, based on recent rumours and conjecture.

Having said that, it will be interesting to observe how the public responds when the calendar is eventually made public and events like Richmond are replaced with races in more recent markets like Mexico.
