Manchester United learn how much the Ajax striker could cost this summer
According to the Daily Mail, amid widespread interest from Premier League clubs, Ajax have imposed a £40m price tag on Manchester United target Mohammed Kudus.
Following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, who terminated his contract by mutual consent, United manager Erik ten Hag is keen to bolster his attacking options.
Within nine months of his appointment, the 52-year-old has already signed Lisandro Martinez and Antony from his former club.
It is said that the Dutch manager was looking to sign a third player he had previously worked with, indicating his interest in Kudus.
In 41 appearances in various competitions, he has scored 18 goals and provided six assists. He recently won the Ghana footballer of the year for his impressive successes for the club and the country.
Kudus has also shown his talent on the international scene and delivered remarkable achievements for his country during the 2022 World Cup.
He managed to score two goals in the tournament, causing considerable attention in recent weeks and triggering speculation about his future.
By Brighton and Manchester United. He currently has just over two years in his contract with Ajax. The player’s agent Jennifer Mendelevich has hinted the player could seal a high-profile move from Ajax this summer.
Ten Hag is particularly interested in a reunion with the Ghana international as he previously coached him at Ajax before moving to Old Trafford. Kudus has the ability to play in a variety of positions in the attacking third, making him a versatile player.
These abilities add to his appeal as he can act as a right flank striker, centre-forward or even a false nine. However, Kudus didn’t play as a regular striker for Ajax but worked as an attacking midfielder or right winger for the Dutch club.
United would prefer to sign a real striker instead of betting on a player who hasn’t been up front during his Eredivisie tenure. The Red Devils are already facing scoring problems, as Marcus Rashford contributed most goals in last season’s third attack
Anthony Martial’s time at Old Trafford appears to be drawing to a close, as the Frenchman could not capitalize on the multiple chances he has been given to prove his worth.
Wout Weghorst, who was previously eyed as a potential option, is no longer available for Man United, leaving manager Ten Hag with limited choices of reliable centre-forward.
It remains uncertain whether the 22-year-old can replicate his Eredivisie form in the Premier League next season. United could potentially target Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos or Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund. Both forwards can be used in the Ten Hag system.
While the former could draw extra cash from the club’s pockets, the latter is available for a relatively cheaper fee of just £52m.
