Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at center of three-way transfer battle following Liverpool departure

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain about to weigh his options after leaving Liverpool last month, with three clubs interested in signing the England international this summer

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is in a three-way battle to sign him.

Former Liverpool midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain, 29, is a free agent after his Anfield contract expired at the end of the season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is the latest player to be targeted by the Saudi Pro League and the England international would be a huge coup as he has played at the highest level, enjoyed great success and has a high profile.

Brentford are also keen and would be willing to give him a one year deal with the selling point being that they have given Christian Eriksen the platform to play and come back to his best.

Turkish club Besiktas are also looking for him and want to make the former Arsenal star their highest paid player, as they have made a concerted effort to get him. Oxlade-Chamberlain is now weighing his options before making a decision on the next step in his career.

The Saudis have invested heavily in Premier League stars, having already signed Ruben Neves, Kalidou Koulibaly and N’Golo Kante from the English top flight, while Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema have also joined the Gulf.

A deal for Oxlade-Chamberlain would be another huge coup given his success and popularity at Liverpool. He won a Premier League title medal, a League Cup, the Champions League and the Club World Cup.

Brentford are one of the best managed clubs in the Premier League and now that Eriksen has rebuilt his career with them, they are keen to give Oxlade-Chamberlain the same opportunity. He is determined to play at the highest level again, he still feels like he has a lot to offer and he is physically fit too.

The latest offer comes from Turkey and Besiktas are also interested in signing him and the fact that he is a free agent gives them the chance to give him a big deal.

After leaving Liverpool last month, Klopp paid tribute to his former midfielder. “Ox is a great guy, an absolutely great guy,” the German told the club’s official website. “Now it’s as bad for Ox as it is sometimes for the players – he’s had a good time here and at the end I’m pretty sure he’s not 100 per cent happy and I can certainly understand that.”

“But the one moment that comes to mind, kind of describes the time here, but also how good he is, is the situation in the Roma semi-final, the home game when he got injured. At that point I had no idea how to replace him, honestly: Ox was so good.”

“He was everything: he came here, played full-back at Arsenal occasionally, winger for sure, and he’s become a real number 8 here in the way we wanted to play: super energetic, technically excellent.”
