Joshua Kimmich, would the Bayern star fit Liverpool and is a transfer possible?
According to reports linking Joshua Kimmich, a star player for Bayern Munich, with a move to Liverpool, social media in Liverpool was enraged on Tuesday. However, is there any truth to the reports?
WHAT’S THE STORY?
According to a report from the German outlet Kicker on Tuesday, Kimmich is no longer considered “unsellable” by the German champions, and they would be open to talking with a club that made a compelling offer for their third captain. “.
No suitor was mentioned by name, and neither was Liverpool, and no price was mentioned.
However, as a result of their now-famous midfield rebuild, the Reds are looking for a new “number 6.”.
The club released James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Arthur Melo while bringing in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, meanwhile, appear to be moving to the Saudi Pro League.
WOULD KIMMICH SUIT LIVERPOOL?
If Fabinho leaves as anticipated, Jurgen Klopp will be left with just two defensive midfielders in his starting lineup: Tyler Morton (20) and Stefan Bajcetic (18).
According to numerous reports, Liverpool will add at least one more midfielder this summer, with Ryan Gravenberch (also of Bayern) and Romeo Lavia (a Fabinho-type player) being the top targets.
Kimmich would be a more expensive and higher-quality alternative.
Since 2015, the 28-year-old has been a standout performer for Bayern and is equally skilled at right back and midfield. Bayern’s third captain is an important player for Germany, having received 79 caps to date, in addition to winning eight Bundesliga championships and the 2020 Champions League. Kimmich would probably be included in the 23-person “Earth squad” you would assemble to play the aliens.
Although Kimmich isn’t as strong in those areas, Klopp typically favors height and physicality in his defensive midfielders (see Fabinho). In this entirely speculative scenario, it is unclear whether he would be used to replace Fabinho at right back, elsewhere in Liverpool’s system, or both.
IS A DEAL LIKELY?
Kimmich isn’t the type of player that Liverpool under FSG typically go for, even putting aside the fact that they weren’t even mentioned as being interested in Kicker’s original story.
With the exception of Thiago (again from Bayern), Liverpool doesn’t sign from the established elite and instead prefers to develop superstars rather than purchase them.
While Thiago was an exception to the rule, at £20 million, he was also considerably less expensive than Kimmich would probably ever be. The German is reportedly Bayern’s highest paid player, earning over €300,000 (£260,00) a week with two years left on his contract in Bavaria. Since only Mohamed Salah currently makes comparable money for Liverpool, it is difficult to imagine Thomas Tuchel’s team entertaining offers under £70 million.
Kimmich, 28, is also older than the majority of FSG signees, with those older than 26 typically preferred, such as Mac Allister and Szoboszlai.
As previously mentioned, Kimmich’s potential aerial shortcomings (he is 5 feet 10 inches tall and only ranks in the 23rd percentile for aerials won when compared to other midfielders, fbref) would probably work against him if Liverpool decides to spend big money on him.
