Manchester United have received a major update on Mason Greenwood’s future from a sponsor.
Ahead of Manchester United’s second season under Erik ten Hag, which starts on August 16 against Wolverhampton Wanderers, there has been an update on what Mason Greenwood’s future could potentially hold.
The 21-year-old striker has not appeared for the club since evidence emerged showing his domestic abuse of partner Harriet Robson, but the question of what action United will take could be resolved very soon.
Greenwood is currently under investigation within the club and is suspended from training and games pending investigation. The Englishman hasn’t played for United since January 2022 but recent footage and reports show Greenwood in individual training. Greenwood was also photographed with his former academy team-mate, Anthony Elanga, who has just left on a permanent move to Nottingham Forest.

The Sun reports that there have been talks and “secret talks” between United and their kit supplier Adidas, including talks between United and Greenwood managers, including manager Ten Hag.
Greenwood was a Nike athlete but was dropped by the sportswear giant after the revelation of images, videos and tapes accusing Greenwood of domestic violence and coercion. He has also been dropped by EA Sports, who have not included him in their FIFA games, and by the Premier League in their official Fantasy PL game.
However, Greenwood remains in United’s squad as his number 11 shirt has not been awarded to any other player. The Sun reports that Adidas sees Greenwood’s return to the club structure as “not an insurmountable obstacle”.
Greenwood has also been linked with a move to Atalanta in Italy, with their striker Rasmus Hojlund on the verge of a move to United himself. Although Greenwood was regarded as a very talented player and United’s front-line future, it is entirely possible that the club did not want to deal with the negative press that retaining his services would create.
United would create an abundance of attacking talent if they can sign Hojlund, with the Dane joining the likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Facundo Pellistri and the returning Amad Diallo. United have also strengthened their ranks in attacking midfield with the signing of Mason Mount and at goalkeeping with Andre Onana.
United recently lost a 2-0 friendly to Real Madrid in Houston but still have three pre-season games left before the season opener against Wolves. They will prepare to face Borussia Dortmund in the next game in Las Vegas.
