Trent Alexander-Arnold scored and set up another in a sensational England performance against Malta

Jamie Carragher thinks the time will soon come when Trent Alexander-Arnold will be in double figures for goals and assists after seeing his sensational performance for England.

Alexander-Arnold, wearing the number 10 shirt, has been given a midfield role by Gareth Southgate for England’s Euro 2024 qualifier in Malta. And the Liverpool star certainly didn’t disappoint.

And in his 19th appearance for his country, Alexander-Arnold went on to score a typically brilliant long-range shot. The 24-year-old was also involved in the third goal of the night, which came from the penalty spot and was converted by captain Harry Kane.

Substitute Callum Wilson then scored a penalty himself to give Southgate’s side a comfortable 4-0 win.

And during the game, former Liverpool and England defender Carragher made a fascinating observation about Alexander-Arnold, who started playing – and impressing – in midfield for his club towards the end of the season. 2022-23.

Carragher tweeted: “This midfield role for TAA (Trent Alexander-Arnold) will eventually become the norm for club and country! He creates a lot of opportunities as a full-back, as he will as a CM (midfielder), but he just scored the goal.” In midfield it will happen a lot more.
