Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool exit position for Saudi Arabia-linked star

Negotiations continue for a record deal in the UK for Moises Caicedo

Jürgen Klopp has confirmed that he doesn’t expect Liverpool to part ways with Thiago Alcantara this summer.

Thiago is the latest Liverpool midfielder to attract interest from Saudi Arabia, with reports suggesting a reunion with Roberto Firmino at Al Ahli is at stake.

Liverpool have already sold both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia, while James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita have started on free transfers, leaving Klopp’s side feeling light in midfield.

As a result, there are no plans to relieve Thiago, who has returned to training after recovering from a hip injury.

“He’s training now, he came in and asked about his role and we talked,” Klopp said in his press conference before Liverpool’s opening Premier League match of the new season. “[He’s a] super experienced player, he’s made some progress in that department. He’s only been training as a team for a week but he’s very vocal, he’ll be very helpful to us.”

Liverpool remain on the hunt for midfield reinforcements and are in talks on both Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.

A £111m UK record deal was agreed for the former, but interest from Chelsea proved a real problem. The Blues had been chasing Caicedo all summer and the Ecuador international would prioritize a move to Stamford Bridge for this reason.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are also agreeing a deal for Lavia, who Liverpool had turned down three offers for before targeting Caicedo. Liverpool’s third offer for Lavia was £46m – less than Southampton’s £50m asking price – but Chelsea are eyeing a deal that would be worth £55m.

Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have already arrived at Anfield, adding significant creative talent to Liverpool’s ranks.
