Detroit Lions’ Playoff Ticket Prices Skyrocket Ahead of Divisional Round

As the Detroit Lions prepare to face the Washington Commanders in the NFC Divisional Playoffs on Saturday, January 20, at 8 p.m. ET at Ford Field, ticket prices are making headlines. Secondary ticket markets are already seeing prices that are significantly outpacing the other Divisional Round matchups.

According to data from Vivid Seats via ESPN, the “get-in” price for a Lions vs. Commanders ticket is currently set higher than the combined get-in prices for the other three Divisional Round games. To put it in perspective, fans could buy tickets for all the other three playoff games for a total of $465, but a single ticket to see the Lions will cost $470.

This surge in ticket prices is nothing new for the Lions. From the outset of the season, their tickets have consistently been more expensive than those for any other team. Last year’s Divisional Round clash between the Lions and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers saw ticket prices averaging over $1,000 each, according to CNN Business. This marked nearly double the previous record for a Divisional Round game.

The rising ticket prices are a reflection of the Lions’ increasing popularity and their highly engaged fanbase. While this trend is sure to frustrate fans looking for affordable access to their favorite team, it’s the inevitable consequence of the team’s success and widespread fan enthusiasm. As a result, season ticket prices for the Lions are also set to rise for the second consecutive year, further emphasizing the growing demand.

Detroit Lions Celebrate Historic Achievement by Sam LaPorta

In a standout performance during the 2024 NFL regular season, Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta continued to impress in his second year. As the No. 34 overall pick from Iowa, LaPorta racked up 60 catches for 726 yards and seven touchdowns.

This impressive total adds to his strong performance from his Pro Bowl rookie season in 2023. With 144 career receptions, LaPorta now holds the all-time record for most receptions by a tight end in their first two seasons. The Lions took to social media on Friday to celebrate LaPorta’s historic feat, posting, “Sam’s been getting after it!” on X.

However, LaPorta’s record may not stand for long. Brock Bowers, a rookie tight end for the Las Vegas Raiders, set a new rookie record with 112 catches in his debut season, earning first-team All-Pro honors, which could potentially eclipse LaPorta’s mark in 2025.

LaPorta’s stellar play has been a key factor in the Lions’ dominant season, as Detroit finished the regular season with a 15-2 record, claiming the No. 1 seed in the NFC. The Lions will face the lowest remaining seed in the divisional round at Ford Field next weekend, following their bye in the wild-card round.
