Liverpool transfer news, rumours, gossip and speculation including the latest developments on Kylian Mbappe, Goncalo Inacio, Nat Phillips, Fabio Carvalho, Benjamin Pavard, Dominik Szoboszlai, Gabri Veiga and Nicolo Barella
Liverpool are considering a deal for Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig and continue to explore options to reshape their midfield. Hungary captain Szoboszlai has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s brightest young talents after joining Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg two years ago.
A meeting with Szoboszlai’s Hungarian agent, EM Sports Management, has reportedly taken place as Liverpool continue to assess what is possible this summer, having signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month.
The future of Chiesa “all but obvious”
Liverpool are said to be in a ‘three-way battle’ with two other Premier League clubs over the signing of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.
La Gazzetta Dello Sport provide the latest information on the Italy international, saying that Chiesa’s future is ‘far from clear’ and that all offers received will be ‘considered’. The reason is Juve’s failed Champions League entry which reportedly cost the club €80m.
Newcastle and Aston Villa are listed as the other two Premier League sides considering a move to EURO 2020 winners, although he adds Jurgen Klopp has ‘great respect’ for Chiesa and ‘would give him the chance to play’ .
Szoboszlai goes up the Liverpool list
Dominik Szoboszlai has ‘moved up’ in Liverpool’s midfield list.
The RB Leipzig midfielder has emerged as a transfer target, ECHO reported yesterday and Sky Sports have reported the Hungarian is ahead of other players the Reds are considering in this area of the pitch.
He adds that Szoboszlai’s ‘impressive chance-generating and ball-handling ability’ suits the Reds perfectly. Liverpool are aiming for the Chiesa deal
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Liverpool are keen to sign a deal for Juventus and Italian striker Federico Chiesa.
According to the Italian outlet, Chiesa doesn’t have the best relationship with Juve boss Max Allegri and is struggling to fit into his 3-5-2 formation.
With a contract extension currently ‘deadlocked’, it appears a move away from Turin could be a real possibility for Chiesa given interest from several Premier League sides.
However, Juventus are said to want €60m for their player, while Liverpool value him at just €40m and don’t want to go any further.
Roberto Firmino’s departure has created a vacancy in the Reds’ forward position
The Szoboszlai affair “is not excluded” after June 30th
Neither Liverpool nor Newcastle have made an official offer for Dominik Szoboszlai pending his £60m release clause to expire tomorrow, it is assumed.
It was revealed yesterday that the Reds are interested in the Hungarian midfielder, who is contracted until 2026 but reportedly has a £60million release clause which expires after June 30.
According to Sky Germany, there are no offers yet, although a deal after June 30 is “not on the table”. Of course, RB Leipzig would be able to negotiate a transfer fee at this stage.
Manu Kone suffers injury damage
Liverpool transfer target Manu Kone has been left on crutches after injuring his knee in France’s last game at the European Under-21 Championship.
The Blues secured their place in the knockout stages of the competition after beating Switzerland 4-1 last night to face Ukraine in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
One player they cannot call up for this game is Kone, who was forced off the field in the 19th minute of last night’s win after suffering a knee injury. The Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder was later seen leaving the stadium on crutches, suggesting this setback could prove to be serious.
Liverpool launch the third installment of the ‘Play On’ campaign.
Liverpool have announced the third installment of their ‘Play On’ campaign, in partnership with Standard Chartered, which encourages girls to continue playing sport.
A four-year project from the Reds, this project aims to tackle the problem of young girls dropping out of the sport by highlighting the benefits playing on the pitch can have on their lives outside of it.
Liverpool will look to bring ‘Play On’ to key markets in Asia and Africa, where coaches from LFC Soccer Schools and the Foundation will offer an education and coaching program exclusively for women and girls. Matt Parish, CEO of the Liverpool FC Foundation, said:
“The LFC Foundation is committed to equal opportunities for women and girls. Through Play On, we will partner with Standard Chartered to provide engaging and inclusive activities to support and inspire girls to stay in sport.
“We know that sport can play an incredibly important role in instilling confidence, teamwork, resilience and leadership in young girls.
But globally, twice as many girls as boys stop exercising before the age of 14. We want to change that,” said Claire Dixon, Group Head, Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing, Standard Chartered and Chair of the Standard Chartered Foundation.
“Our Standard Chartered Futuremakers and Goal programs recognize the important role that sport can play in teaching important life skills that enable women to be their best, whatever career path they have chosen. .”
Real are ‘forced to intervene’ due to Liverpool’s interest in Camavinga.
Real Madrid have reportedly offered Eduardo Camavinga a new contract in a bid to avoid transfer interest from Liverpool.
The French midfielder has agreed to extend his stay at the Spanish giants until 2028, as claimed by MARCA, which raises the player’s release clause from €700m to €1bn. The 20-year-old, who was first signed at Rennes in 2021, has become a regular in Carlo Ancelotti’s side and is expected to keep his place despite Jude Bellingham’s arrival as he can also play in the back left.
As part of the negotiations for this contract extension, Camavinga have reportedly ‘demanded’ that he return to a regular midfield role or threatened to ‘consider the offers on the table’.
Liverpool are listed as a team interested in securing his services, with El Nacional pointing out that Jurgen Klopp ‘already tried’ to sign the youngster during his time at Rennes and remain interested in the player.
The Blancos were “forced to step in” because of this interest in securing the long-term future of one of their prized possessions.
Klopp is said to have been “surprised by Camavinga’s growth” since he signed for Real and “ordered” the Liverpool board to make an effort to bring him to Anfield. It is suggested that the Reds were willing to offer a salary of €20m (£17m) per season on a four-year deal.
Carvalho ‘in Germany’ for medical visits
Fabio Carvalho is reportedly in Germany, preparing to undergo a medical ahead of a season-long move to RB Leipzig.
The Reds recently signed a deal for the midfielder to temporarily depart, choosing the Bundesliga as their destination for the 2023/24 season. Carvalo is now one step closer to making this deal official as he prepares to take part in routine medical exams, as reported by Fabrizio Romano
Szoboszlai state of affairs
Under contract until 2026
A meeting was reportedly taking place between the player’s representatives and Liverpool
Presumably a €70m release clause, which expires tomorrow
Goal by Harvey Elliott
Last night was a positive night for Harvey Elliott as he scored an outstanding solo goal as England U21s qualified for the knockout stages of the European Championships.
A 2-0 win over Germany put Lee Carsley’s side top of Group C and they face Portugal in the quarter-finals of the tournament on Sunday.
Szoboszlai last transfer
Liverpool are exploring a deal for RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai as they continue to weigh midfield rebuild options.
Hungary captain Szoboszlai has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s brightest young talents after joining Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg two years ago.
Clearly, a meeting with Hungary’s representatives from Szoboszlai EM Sports Management has taken place as Liverpool continue to explore what is possible this summer, having already signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month.
However, there are conflicting reports on when a release clause worth around £60m will expire. Some reports suggest it will expire on June 30, while others claim it will be in mid-July. It’s unclear what value the Bundesliga club would place on Szoboszlai if the release clause is no longer in place.
