Mark Goldbridge provides the latest update on Manchester United’s pursuit of Harry Kane

Mark Goldbridge has provided the latest update on Manchester United’s pursuit of Tottenham star Harry Kane this summer.

United have set Kane as a priority target ahead of the transfer window opening last month, having already explored the feasibility of a summer move.

But The Times said Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would only sell Kane to a Premier League rival for a £100m upfront payment.

United’s interest has since cooled off and manager Erik ten Hag has turned his attention to other key positions. Midfielder Mason Mount and goalkeeper Andre Onana have both joined Old Trafford for a combined fee of over £100m. Ten Hag has also started shortening its selection.

Alex Telles has joined Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr on a permanent deal, while striker Anthony Elanga is due to undergo a medical at Nottingham Forest ahead of a £15m transfer deal.

Player sales could lead United to rethink an early move on Kane amid interest in the striker from German giants Bayern Munich.

Goldbridge has now provided a status update on their pursuit.

Goldbridge over Kane at Man Utd

Goldbridge tweeted: “From pretty much the best source possible. United are not in contention for Harry Kane.

“He was a prime target for Ten Hag, but under Glazer ownership United don’t have the resources or the negotiating skills to get that deal done this summer.”

He expanded on his comments in a follow-up video for The United Stand: “The bottom line for Manchester United is that two big things should happen if Harry signs Kane this summer.”

“Spurs should change their tough stance to not want to sell him to a Premier League club. And the Glazers should sell to Qatar very, very quickly to give United the financial muscle and the bargaining power to get the deal done.”

“None of these things are likely. “Yes, Manchester United remain interested in Harry Kane and would like to sign him. However, the fact is that they will not be in this race because they know there are two main reasons why they cannot win it.
“United are not going back to this deal unless something wonderful happens.”
