The Las Vegas Raiders are actively searching for their next head coach, with one of their top contenders potentially being Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
Johnson has become one of the most sought-after coaching candidates this offseason, thanks to his impressive work with quarterback Jared Goff in Detroit. Reports suggest that Johnson may prefer the Raiders over other teams vying for his services.
Although the Chicago Bears have been linked to Johnson, he doesn’t appear to be too interested in joining their staff.
Why is that? Dan Patrick provided some insight.
“I was told last night that [for] Ben Johnson, the Raiders make more sense because he doesn’t want to go against the Lions and Dan Campbell being in the same conference,” Patrick shared on The Dan Patrick Show. “Whether that is true or not, I think also the allure of Tom Brady [was a factor], and Brady is making decisions with the Raiders. It feels like he is making the decisions with the Raiders.”
This reasoning certainly raises some interesting points, but it’s not entirely out of the question.
It’s possible Johnson’s preference is driven by loyalty to Campbell or a desire to avoid facing the Lions twice a year, especially given how strong their team has become. Additionally, Brady’s involvement with the Raiders could be a significant draw.
Regardless, it seems that Johnson has set his sights on Las Vegas as his top choice, which should excite Raiders fans who have been hoping for an offensive mastermind to lead the team.
However, the Raiders’ coaching search is only one part of the equation. They also need to address their roster needs this offseason.
With no clear quarterback answer for 2025 and a need for more offensive weapons, Las Vegas has significant work ahead. On top of that, they must make decisions regarding their own free agents.
Fortunately, the Raiders will have ample cap space to address these concerns, but simply having financial resources doesn’t guarantee that all issues will be resolved.
Despite these challenges, Las Vegas still has a clear path to playoff contention in the near future, provided they make the right moves.

Dan Campbell Reveals Major Injury Updates for Lions Following Playoff Bye
The Detroit Lions are preparing to begin their postseason campaign on Saturday, as they take on the Washington Commanders in the divisional round. As the No. 1 seed in the NFC, the Lions enjoyed a bye during wildcard weekend.
The bye was crucial for Detroit, which has been plagued by injuries throughout the season, with several players on injured reserve. The Lions are hopeful that some of these injured players, including veteran running back David Montgomery, will return for Saturday’s game.
Montgomery sustained a potentially season-ending left knee injury in Week 15 against the Buffalo Bills, but it turned out to be just an MCL sprain. After seeking multiple medical opinions, the veteran opted for rehabilitation and is now set to play in the NFC divisional round.
On Monday, Lions head coach Dan Campbell offered an encouraging injury update for fans ahead of the game against the Commanders.
As reported by Colton Pouncey of The Athletic, Campbell said, “We didn’t have any injuries over the last few days, so I think we’re OK.”
Given the Lions’ bye, it’s not surprising that no new injuries were reported. But, as the saying goes, sometimes no news is good news.
Campbell deserves credit for guiding Detroit through a season filled with injuries to secure the NFC North title and the top seed in Week 18, finishing with an impressive 15-2 record. The Lions and the Chiefs are the only teams with 15 wins.
Detroit will face a Commanders team that is playing freely and coming off a major playoff win on Sunday over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since the Lions didn’t face Washington this season, this will be their first encounter with potential Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate Jayden Daniels.
Daniels has impressed with both his passing and ability to make plays on the ground. Detroit’s defense, which welcomed back veteran linebacker Alex Anzalone in Week 18, will have a tough challenge ahead as they try to contain Daniels.
