Transfer: I want to go elsewhere – the Arsenal midfielder tells Arteta

Arsenal midfielder Sambi Lokonga has revealed he wants to leave the club this summer.

Lokonga joined the Emirates from Anderlecht in 2021 but struggled for time under Mikel Arteta.

The Belgian spent half of last season at Crystal Palace, where he made just nine appearances.

The 23-year-old is linked with a move to newly-promoted side Burnley, after working with coach Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht.

And Lokonga has now admitted he wants to leave Arsenal in search of regular professional football.

“I don’t know, I’ll try to go somewhere where I want to play,” Lokonga told former South Korean soccer player Wonhee Hyung in an appearance on his YouTube channel.

“That’s the most important thing, playing a few games and playing game after game.”

Barcelona wants a 20-year-old from Arsenal for free

Barcelona are looking to sign Miguel Azeez from Arsenal on a free transfer with a sell clause, according to a report.

Spanish outlet SPORT reports that Miguel Azeez is on Barcelona’s agenda as they look to add him to their B squad – Barcelona Atletic.

Barca B currently play in the third tier of Spanish football and are hoping to finalize the signing of Azeez on a free transfer with a sell clause.

Azeez has a contract with Arsenal until 2024, so the Gunners should agree to such a deal.

At first glance one might think that a free transfer would not be very attractive to Arsenal as they would not be getting any money for a young player in whom he has invested a lot of time and resources.

But Azeez’s recent career trajectory could make a Barcelona option more attractive.

Azeez was loaned out to Portsmouth at the start of the 2021/22 season but was recalled in January after making just 10 League One appearances and spent the rest of the season with Arsenal’s academy.

Last season, Azeez was loaned out again to UD Ibiza but was recalled again in January after eleven appearances.

This time around, Arsenal have again loaned the midfielder to Wigan Athletic, where he made just two appearances in the second half of the season.

At this point, it appears Azeez needs a fresh start to get back on track. Perhaps a move to Spain to play in the lower ranks can help him progress and recover some of the market value he has lost in recent seasons.

Arsenal will have to decide for themselves whether it will ultimately be likely to be more profitable than selling the player now for a fee, or whether they want to keep Azeez for the last year of his contract.
