South Carolina’s 2025 football schedule is packed with chances for revenge, as the Gamecocks will face three of the four teams they lost to the previous season.
After finishing last season with a 9-4 record and being ranked 19th in the final AP poll, South Carolina is looking ahead to next season. The 2025 campaign will see the Gamecocks square off against four opponents that finished the year ranked in the AP poll.
The Gamecocks will kick off the season in Atlanta, where they’ll take on Virginia Tech in the Aflac Kickoff game. The Hokies ended last season at 6-7 and have had just four winning seasons since Frank Beamer, the father of South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer, retired in 2015. This game is very winnable for South Carolina, and their performance could set the tone for the rest of the season.
Following that, South Carolina will play South Carolina State before diving into SEC action with a home game against Vanderbilt. Once viewed as an easy opponent, the Commodores shocked many last year with a series of upset victories. They finished 7-6 and will bring back quarterback Diego Pavia.
Next, South Carolina will travel for their first true road game of the season, facing Missouri, who was also one of the Gamecocks’ top-25-ranked opponents last year. The Tigers narrowly lost to South Carolina 34-30 in Columbia in 2024.
The Gamecocks will then face Kentucky, LSU, and Oklahoma, all of whom finished outside the rankings last season but could pose a threat in 2025. The LSU game offers South Carolina a chance at revenge after their controversial 33-36 loss to the Tigers last year.
Another revenge opportunity comes during the homecoming game against Alabama. The Crimson Tide edged the Gamecocks 27-25 in a thrilling contest in 2024. South Carolina fans will be hoping for a similarly exciting game in 2025, but with a different result.
South Carolina will close out SEC play with road games against Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Both teams had solid seasons in 2024 and will be aiming for a spot in the College Football Playoff in 2025. The Gamecocks will have another revenge shot against Ole Miss, who handed them their most humiliating loss last year.
After SEC play wraps up, the Gamecocks will host Coastal Carolina and Clemson. The Tigers will be seeking revenge after South Carolina’s 17-14 victory in 2024.
While the schedule looks challenging, it’s manageable. The Gamecocks will get a shot at redemption against three of the four teams they lost to last year and will also face three teams with Tiger mascots. Could 2025 be the year Shane Beamer’s squad makes it to the College Football Playoff? Only time will tell.
