6 Alabama players to participate in Super Bowl LIX

This past Sunday, both the AFC and NFC champions were determined, making the matchup for Super Bowl LIX, set for Sunday, Feb. 9, official.

The game will feature a rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, who faced each other in last year’s Super Bowl. For Super Bowl LIX, the game will take place at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, and will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET, airing on FOX.

With this matchup confirmed, several former Alabama Crimson Tide players will once again take the field in the Super Bowl, all representing the Eagles.

Here’s a look at the former Alabama football players who will play in the Super Bowl:

Jalen Hurts, Quarterback – Philadelphia Eagles

Hurts, one of the starting quarterbacks for the game, had an impressive regular season, completing 68.7% of his passes for 2,903 yards with an 18:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio over 15 starts. He also rushed for 14 touchdowns during the regular season and has continued his strong performance into the postseason, accounting for seven touchdowns over three games.

DeVonta Smith, Wide Receiver – Philadelphia Eagles

The former Heisman Trophy winner had a productive regular season, recording 68 receptions for 833 yards and eight touchdowns in 13 games. Smith has also been effective in the playoffs, with four receptions in each of the Eagles’ three games, totaling 121 yards.

Landon Dickerson, Offensive Guard – Philadelphia Eagles

Dickerson, the first of two former Alabama offensive linemen on the Eagles, starts at left guard and is recognized as one of the NFL’s top guards, earning his third consecutive Pro Bowl selection this season.

Tyler Steen, Offensive Guard – Philadelphia Eagles

Steen, the second former Alabama offensive lineman on the Eagles, is primarily a backup offensive guard. He is in his second NFL season.

Eli Ricks, Cornerback – Philadelphia Eagles

Ricks, in his second season in the NFL, has recorded two tackles over seven games played. The former Alabama cornerback has yet to see any playoff action.

Byron Young, Defensive Tackle – Philadelphia Eagles

Young is the final former Alabama player on the Eagles roster for the Super Bowl. He has not recorded any statistics this season and has spent much of the year on injured reserve due to injury.
