Reporting live following another challenging offensive performance by South Carolina, who managed to defeat Georgia 65-43 this Sunday afternoon.
A Battle of Shooting Woes
What I witnessed today was a game defined more by missed opportunities than made baskets. Both squads struggled mightily from the field throughout the contest.
Georgia opened the game hot, converting three of their first four attempts. But then the wheels fell off—they proceeded to miss their next 10 shots. The shooting struggles continued in waves. At one point, the Lady Bulldogs missed 12 of 13 attempts. After cutting the deficit to 14 points entering the fourth quarter, Georgia went ice cold again, missing 12 of their next 14 shots.
South Carolina fared only marginally better. The Gamecocks endured a brutal stretch in the second quarter, missing 13 consecutive shots. Although they found some rhythm in the final period, shooting 6-for-12, they still finished the game below 40% from the field.
The Numbers Tell the Story
The final shooting percentages paint a clear picture: South Carolina connected on just 37.9% of their attempts, while Georgia managed a dismal 27.0% conversion rate. The Bulldogs did attempt to keep pace from beyond the arc, going 5-for-18 from three-point range.
Rylie Theuerkauf emerged as Georgia’s lone bright spot offensively. She knocked down 4-of-10 three-pointers and led all scorers with 16 points, nearly carrying her team single-handedly through the second half.
Winning Runs Make the Difference
Despite the offensive struggles on both sides, South Carolina found ways to create separation when it mattered most. The Gamecocks closed the first quarter with a decisive 13-0 run that established control. Then, in the third quarter, they assembled an 11-2 surge that effectively put the game out of reach.
These momentum-shifting stretches proved to be the difference in a game where neither team could establish consistent offensive rhythm.
The Gamecocks found a way to win ugly today—a sign of a championship-caliber team that can prevail even when shots aren’t falling.
