The University of South Carolina is celebrating the remarkable career of Tyasha Harris, one of the most accomplished point guards in Gamecocks women’s basketball history, following her selection as the program’s latest Hall of Fame honoree.
Harris made a lasting impact during her time in Columbia, contributing to one of the most successful periods in South Carolina basketball. She was a key member of the 2017 national championship team and helped the Gamecocks secure two SEC regular-season titles and three SEC Tournament championships.
Beyond her championship contributions, Harris established herself as one of the most productive players to ever represent the program. Her ability to control the offense, create opportunities for teammates, and consistently deliver as a playmaker placed her among the program’s statistical leaders.
Harris remains the only player in South Carolina history to surpass 1,000 career points and 700 career assists. She also holds the school’s all-time record for career assists, demonstrating the influence she had in organizing the Gamecocks’ offense throughout her collegiate career.
Her passing ability was particularly evident during the 2019–20 season, when she recorded 220 assists in a single campaign, setting a program record that continues to highlight her exceptional court vision and distribution skills.
Harris’ individual achievements were equally impressive. She earned WBCA All-America recognition twice and received All-SEC honors on three occasions. Her collegiate career reached another milestone in 2020, when she won both the Dawn Staley Award, presented to the nation’s top point guard, and the SEC Athlete of the Year award.
These honors reflected her influence not only as a talented basketball player but also as a leader who helped drive South Carolina’s success at the highest level of college basketball.
Following her outstanding career with the Gamecocks, Harris took the next step toward professional basketball when she was selected seventh overall in the WNBA Draft. Her transition to the professional game further underscored the quality of her collegiate development and the significance of her accomplishments in Columbia.
Her Hall of Fame recognition now adds another distinction to an already impressive résumé. Harris’ career combined national success, conference championships, individual awards, and historic statistical achievements.
