Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal-linked Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia this summer.
The 19-year-old was one of the few positives for Saints in a dismal season which saw them relegated to the Championship.
After signing for Manchester City, Lavia made 29 Premier League appearances for Southampton last season. And his successes have attracted the attention of some top clubs.
As TEAMtalk previously reported, Manchester United and Chelsea are both interested in the youngster. However, Arsenal have long been considered favorites to sign him.
It’s no secret that Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his midfield this summer. He is now one step away from signing his he main target Declan Rice. But he might lose his second priority.
Like Arteta, Klopp is really looking to add more midfielders to his squad, despite him already signing Alexis Mac Allister earlier this summer.
Players like Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone are heavily linked with a move to Liverpool. But it looks like the Reds are now seriously considering making a bid for Lavia.
Liverpool land Arsenal-linked Lavia
Liverpool have already ‘announced their intention to make an offer for Lavia this summer’, according to renowned transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
Speaking to The Redmen TV, he said: “What I can say is that Liverpool are moving forward with the profile, are still interested and have stayed in touch with the player’s environment.”
“They have announced that they want to make an offer this summer. It’s something very concrete and big. “As I said in my tweet yesterday, there are contacts with Southampton who can really help with the deal.”
Lavia is expected to leave Southampton this summer, but only for the right price.
Earlier reports suggest the Saint will consider offers in the region of £40m. But given the interest in the Belgian, the final price of her could be higher.
Interestingly, Manchester City have included a buy-back clause in Lavia’s contract, also for a fee of £40m. However, it will only become valid in 2024. That’s why Liverpool will no doubt be keen to finalize a deal as soon as possible.
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if the Reds table make an offer for Lavia in the coming weeks.
