Altay Bayindir reportedly has a £4.3m release clause in his Manchester United contract, making a bid to take the Fenerbahçe goalkeeper to the Premier League.
After waiting three weeks for their first signing of the summer – Mason Mount was officially revealed as Manchester United’s new number seven in mid-week – deals two, three and four appear to be progressing fairly quickly.
Manchester United made a new and improved £42m offer for André Onana on Thursday, according to Fabrizio Romano. A £50m offer for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund (The Telegraph) is also in the works.
And while future deals for Onana and Hojlund will make most of the headlines, Erik ten Hag, John Murtough, Matt Hargreaves and others are also hard at work behind the scenes as they look for a cheap ‘stock’ keeper. Altay Bayindir could join Man United on the cheap
United are reportedly in talks with Urawa Red Diamonds about Japanese international Zion Suzuki.
Bayindir, meanwhile, is the cheapest of the lot. The five-capped player is said to have a £4.3million release clause in his Fenerbahçe contract.
The Red Devils made a £2.5m offer earlier this week, according to journalist Murat Zorlu. But even if Fenerbahçe kept all that £4.3m – and wouldn’t immediately be forced to cash in on Bayindir’s contract for less than five years – a goalkeeper who has been tipped by a former Turkish international to join Manchester United to join. could arrive in 2021 and hardly make a dent in Ten Hag’s budget.
“There may be offers from abroad for Altay. We are following the process as best we can and will make decisions accordingly,” Fenerbahce coach Ismail Kartal told Goal and NTV.
“His morale and motivation are good. We are monitoring this situation closely with our President.
We will decide (his future) depending on the developments. “Something like that doesn’t exist; “Let Altai go!” Or; “Let’s take a (new) goalkeeper.” We are monitoring the situation accordingly. We will decide.”
According to President Fener Ali Koc, Bayindir is a “special player” with a “special personality”.
It remains to be seen how he would feel about a substitute role at Old Trafford, although the prospect of United appearing on multiple fronts means Bayindir should be given plenty of opportunities to make a name for himself.
