Adrian reveals Liverpool’s motivations behind new deal for season No. 5

Adrian has revealed he will take on a senior role in the Liverpool dressing room after signing a new contract this summer.

The 36-year-old signed a new one-year contract last month, extending his stay at Anfield for a fifth season

News of the new terms came as a surprise to many as Adrian has only made one appearance in each of the last two campaigns.
However, the Spaniard has now explained that the decision to keep him was mainly down to his off-the-pitch contributions.

He told the club’s official website: “Obviously with Millie gone I am now the most experienced player in the dressing room.

I have that role too. “I try to help young people. We also have a big Latin group, so I try to help them settle in as quickly as possible, like Darwin [Nunez] learning English and also Luis [Diaz] getting better. We are like family.

“We need to help each other fit, play and perform as well as possible as quickly as possible. I’m one of the team players looking to help and I’m ready for any opportunity.

Adrian’s new contract has been questioned by many fans due to the fact that he will take one of only 17 non-native places in Liverpool’s Premier League squad. But This Is Anfield understands the Reds are confident they can solve this problem while continuing to strengthen Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

For example, midfielder Romeo Lavia would be considered an underage player if he joined in the summer before qualifying for hometown status for the 2024/25 season.

Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara could be on his way to Saudi Arabia after being subject to “serious interest” from clubs, despite him rejecting an earlier offer.

The 32-year-old is entering the final year of his Anfield contract and has been designated a main target for the Saudi Pro League.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are yet to receive an official offer for the injury-plagued midfielder, who is focused on returning to the first team following his sacking at the end of the season.

The outlet understands that the Spanish international currently intends to stay with Jurgen Klopp’s squad, but the possibility of a move up to the league remains open.

Thiago would be the latest high-profile footballer to commit to the Saudi project and could follow Reds legend Steven Gerrard into the country after he accepts a role as Al-Ettifaq manager.
