Liverpool will reportedly hijack Chelsea’s deal for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, if Jordan Henderson and Fabinho eventually leave.
Liverpool interested in Caicedo
Chelsea are also in competition for the player
Brighton value the player at £100m
WHAT HAPPENED? With their midfield duo potentially leaving for Saudi Arabia, Liverpool are looking to strengthen their midfield options and see Caicedo as an excellent potential addition to the squad.
According to talkSPORT, while Chelsea remain favorites to sign Caicedo, Liverpool could still make a late offer to disrupt their plans, if they lose both Henderson and Fabinho.
THE BIGGER PICTURE: The Blues are said to be close to finalizing an £80m ($105m) deal for Caicedo, who is regarded as Mauricio Pochettino’s top transfer target.
The player also admitted he ‘can’t say no’ to Chelsea’s offer ‘because they are a very big, historic and great team’. But Liverpool were not in contention for him.
WHAT MORE: Brighton value the player at £100million and if Liverpool offer more than Chelsea, the Seagulls remain open to selling him to the highest bidder. By selling Henderson and Fabinho, Liverpool would have a substantial budget to invest in midfield reinforcements.
While the captain could get around £10m ($13m), Al Ittihad are ready to approach them with a big offer of £40m ($52m) for the Brazilian midfielder. That gives them £50m ($63m) to reinvest.
Furthermore, Southampton’s Romeo Lavia is also being considered by Liverpool, with the Saints valuing the young Belgian at £50m ($63m).
AND NOW? Liverpool’s hunt for Caicedo hinges on the potential sale of Henderson and Fabinho. If Chelsea can speed up talks with Brighton and agree to meet their demands, the Blues have a good chance of signing the midfielder.
For now, however, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will make a concrete offer higher than Chelsea’s stated £80m ($105m) offer to beat the London club in Caicedo’s signing.
