Jurgen Klopp has ruled out leaving Liverpool to take on the role of the Germany national team but stressed he wants to ‘keep my options open’ once his time at Anfield inevitably comes to an end.

Klopp is a permanent candidate to take over the Germany national team but has repeatedly dismissed speculation and underlined his commitment to Liverpool by signing a new four-year contract in April 2022.

Current Germany manager Hansi Flick is under intense scrutiny after a string of disappointing results and reports suggest Klopp could once again be targeted to lead the side to next summer’s European Championships.

However, Klopp once again dismissed the discussion.

“The position of national manager is and would be a great honor – there is no doubt about that,” Klopp told The Athletic. “The issue holding up the whole thing is my loyalty. I can’t leave Liverpool now and say I’m going to take over Germany for a short time. It doesn’t work and the demand isn’t even there.”

Klopp has never hidden his interest in taking over his international side, but revealed earlier this year that he would consider taking over if he had no other commitments.

“If I have to lead Germany at some point then I have to be available and I’m not at the moment. I have a responsibility towards the club,” he explained. “Deep down it’s an interesting job. But I don’t know yet if I’ll do something completely different after leaving Liverpool. I want to keep my options open.
