Latest Premier League transfer rumours: Chelsea inquire about Kylian Mbappe plus updates from Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United
Chelsea are reportedly looking to continue spending freely during the transfer window as they eye Mohammed Kudus and Kylian Mbappe.
Londoners host Liverpool FC on the opening day of the Premier League season. In this encounter, Mauricio Pochettino returns to the English top flight after being sent off at Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool will be looking to get off to a strong start in the final game after a disappointing season. Likewise, the Stamford Bridge side are hoping for a positive season after new owner Todd Boehly’s tumultuous debut in England. Chelsea have been spending money since the American’s arrival and reports indicate it won’t stop there. Elsewhere in the Premier League; Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle United all want to continue their activities in the transfer window.
Here are all the current Premier League rumors
Arsenal
Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus.
According to Charles Watts on TeamTalk, the Gunners could reunite the midfielder with former team-mate Jurrien Timber, who joined the Eredivisie in the summer.
“He [Kudus] is definitely a player they like,” he said. “I’ve seen recent reports that they may be looking to increase this interest at a later date, which in this case wouldn’t surprise me.
“I still think they’re probably thinking about adding at least one more player before the deadline and Kudus ticks a lot of boxes when it comes to what they want to bring. He can cover the right side of the attack, which is an absolute priority for Arsenal. He’s versatile, which again is an absolute must when signing for Arsenal under Mikel Arteta these days.”
“He’s exactly in the age group where they want to get players.” So he ticks all those boxes.”
Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun was left out of the squad beaten 2-0 and then on penalties by Manchester United on Saturday night. The United States international is currently at a turning point in his career as he hasn’t quite found a starting spot for Mikel Arteta’s side but has enjoyed a successful loan spell in France.
Inter Milan are reportedly eyeing Balogun, according to Corriere dello Sport, who got their top priority after Simone Inzaghi’s side turned down a move for Romelu Lukaku.
Chelsea
While Arsenal are reportedly keen on Mohammed Kudus, Chelsea are interested in the Ajax midfielder, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
The Stamford Bridge side have reportedly made contact with the Dutch giants expressing an interest in the Ghanaian. Kudus would be one of the options Chelsea are considering. The Ajax midfielder still has two years left on his contract but has rejected a one-year extension, now saying an agreement on personal terms is close.
The Times also reports that Paris Saint Germain will open negotiations for the transfer of Kylian Mbappé. The French star attracts a number of suitors, especially Saudi Arabians and Londoners.
The Parisians have failed to convince Mbappé of his position that he will not extend beyond 2024 with the Ligue 1 giants and are now threatening to lose him as a free agent next summer. As a result, they try to force a sale during this time. PSG would expect Chelsea to lead a group of clubs in Europe in inquiries into Mbappé’s availability.
Another potential striker, Victor Osimhen, is currently locked in contract talks with Napoli. Although an agreement has not yet been reached, also due to a disagreement over his release clause, Corriere dello Sport says.
Manchester City
The Mirror reports that Manchester City will have to pay £87m to sign Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig. The Croatian defender has been in the Premier League champions’ spotlight this summer. Already this week Max Eberl reiterated his intention to retain the defender’s services.
Gvardiol is said to be Pep Guardiola’s main target and the manager is increasingly frustrated with City’s refusal to pay the price.
Crystal Palace are reportedly targeting a move by Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte.
According to the Daily Star, the 29-year-old could leave the Citizens after falling out of favor in the Etihad defensive hierarchy. Laporte still has two years on his contract, but Roy Hodgson would like to strengthen his defensive options. The Star say City would like £35m for his services.
Guardiola says he has spoken to defender Kyle Walker about his future amid continued interest in Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich transfer.
“Honestly, I didn’t think there was any movement. I think a lot of things are going to happen,” said the Spaniard. “I can’t answer because I don’t know. I want the best for my players and of course for the club.
“I’ve spoken to Kyle and everything is fine – we’ll see what happens. I can’t tell you because he’s still thinking about it.”
Manchester United
Manchester United believe that between £50m and £60m is a fair valuation for target Rasmus Holjund.
According to Football Insider, the Red Devils are on the hunt for the Atalanta star but are wary of overspending on the 20-year-old. Erik ten Hag has already welcomed Mason Mount and Andre Onana to Old Trafford after securing their two main transfer targets. Their focus is now on acquiring an attacker. After relying on Marcus Rashford’s contributions last season, Anthony Martial struggled with injuries and form that left him needing a striker.
It is said that Holjund has already agreed personal terms with United. However, reports in France suggest that PSG could launch a belated charge against the attacker.
Tottenham Hotspur
According to BILD, Harry Kane’s wife is currently in Germany to view homes and schools under interest from Bayern Munich. Tottenham’s talisman is under increasing pressure about his future in north London. Kane is in his final year at Spurs, once again with interest in a transfer.
This time, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are looking to acquire his services. Twice their approaches have already been rejected.
However, BILD has “revealed” that Harry Kane’s wife Katie Goodland has been in Bavaria this week. Newcastle United
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is confident Allan Saint-Maximin will leave St James’ Park this summer.
A £30m fee is said to have been agreed with Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli, which would see the end of the Frenchman’s association with the Magpies.
Premier League clubs have reportedly sent a letter to the Premier League expressing their concerns about how the deal came about. An unnamed club group is said to have disputed the amount of compensation Newcastle will receive for the 26-year-old.
Al Ahli is 100% owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which currently has an 80% stake in the northeast club. Still, Howe is confident the deal will be “duly executed” should it go through. He said: “The deal is unconfirmed, so it’s hard to give too much detail or clarity on specific things.”
“But what I would say is that we have the same rules as any other Premier League club when it comes to deals. Therefore, we will meet all the necessary criteria to ensure the deal is sound and executed correctly.
