The Romeo Lavia saga continues as Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville argue over FSG in the latest Liverpool transfer news.

Jamie Carragher called Liverpool’s deal ’embarrassing’ as he responded to a report that their third offer for Romeo Lavia had been turned down; Liverpool still need reinforcements as the Premier League season kicks off against Chelsea on Sunday – live on Sky Sports

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have taken to social media over ownership of Liverpool as their transfer deal is set to extend into the new season.

Liverpool signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £35m and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for £60m in the summer but are still in need of reinforcements after losing six first-team midfielders.

The Reds have developed a reputation for being efficient in the transfer market, but following the departures of their last two sporting directors, Michael Edwards and Julian Ward, the club have struggled to maintain those standards.

Carragher called his former club’s deal ’embarrassing’ on social media and responded to a report that their third offer for 19-year-old Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia is worth £45 million pounds, had been rejected.

“Liverpool have been closing deals quickly and smoothly for years,” the Sky Sports pundit wrote on social media platform X. “If you don’t think he’s worth £50m then go ahead if you really want to make him pay.

“Also, I’m not sure why LFC doesn’t want Caicedo, yes that’s a lot of money, but Liverpool have received a lot of money for Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.”

Ahead of the new Premier League season – which will start for Liverpool on Sunday at Chelsea live on Sky Sports – Gary Neville spoke with comments from his experienced partner.

“Now do you agree that Klopp has been protecting your owners for the past 5-6 years?” asked Neville.

Carragher replied: “Gary, you have no idea what’s going on at Liverpool! The owners have a self-contained model which Klopp bought and it has produced wonders!

“Part of that was a transfer department that Europe was jealous of. Now it’s gone with Jurgen Klopp running the club from top to bottom.” Liverpool have had three DOFs in 18 months, the current one came out of retirement to take the job this summer, he’s a close contact for the manager.

“Liverpool’s wage bill is £150m more per season than Arsenal’s. Just do the math.

“Liverpool don’t have an investor (Peter Lim) like you have at Salford where you and the guys get on a plane at the end of the season asking him to spend more money!”

Southampton have turned down Liverpool’s third offer for midfielder Romeo Lavia.

The latest offer is said to be worth around £45million. Talks with Southampton are still ongoing but the Championship club are believed to stick to the £50m valuation for the 19-year-old.

A source told Sky Sports News Chelsea are also interested and are monitoring his situation.

Lavia still has a four-year contract with Southampton.

The Belgium international arrived from Manchester City last summer but is expected to leave after Saints were relegated from the Premier League last season.
