Liverpool transfer news: ‘Offer made’ for $33m star and Moisés Caicedo alternative ‘identified’

Liverpool transfer news: Jürgen Klopp and Jörg Schmadtke may have to hatch a plan after Moisés Caicedo and a $33m offer is made.

Liverpool appear to be out of the race for Brighton midfielder Moisés Caicedo, with the 21-year-old Ecuadorian looking closest to agreeing to a move to Chelsea after a remarkable run in recent days.

Caicedo has signed for Chelsea for $146m (£115m/€133m), according to The Telegraph. I want to go there.

If so, then the next big question is what happens to Roméo Lavia. The same Telegraph report states that Southampton have also received an offer from Chelsea for Lavia and that Todd Boehly is looking to bring in both players. If Liverpool missed both goals, what would they do? A new plan should be drawn up quickly as time is running out in the summer transfer window as the September 1 deadline draws ever closer.

Khephren Thuram (Nice)
Liverpool transfer news: 'Offer made' for $33m star and Moisés Caicedo alternative 'identified'
Earlier this summer, Liverpool had their sights set on France Under-21 midfielder Khéphren Thuram, but eventually opted for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. However, the Daily Mirror report that he could become a target again should Caicedo join Chelsea.

Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch is another player listed as a possibility for the Reds, but none of those players really hold players who could play on their own as a number six. Both are significantly more aggressive. Liverpool.com says: Liverpool need a good defensive midfielder who can come in and make an immediate impact and Caicedo would have been the perfect stylistic match. Neither Thuram nor Gravenberch fit that mold, so it’s likely it will be someone else (perhaps Lavia, unless he follows Caicedo to Stamford Bridge).

Sofyan Amrabat (Fiorentina)
Again, this is a player who has been linked to Liverpool in the past, although it would certainly be disappointing to switch from Caicedo to the $33m (£26m/€30m) valued Sofyan Amrabat.

However, it appears Amrabat is on his way to Manchester United, despite him receiving an offer from Liverpool as the search for a midfielder continues.

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla told MUFC Realist TV that Amrabat has a deal to move to Old Trafford, but he has also received offers from Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Saudi Arabia. However, the player only wants Manchester United.

Liverpool.com says: If this was a deal Liverpool really wanted to do, it could have been done in January or now. The Reds can improve someone and with a longer-term perspective, but it remains to be seen who it will be.
