Liverpool and Argentina star Alexis Mac Allister received a straight red card in his new club’s Premier League win over Bournemouth, his home debut for the club
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister will not serve a suspension following his red card against Bournemouth, with the FA confirming his suspension has been lifted.
The Argentine international received a direct red card against the Cherries for a foul on Ryan Christie. However, Liverpool have appealed the decision and were successful in doing so, meaning they will have the new man available for the next few weeks…
“An independent regulatory commission has lifted the three-match suspension of Alexis Mac Allister following a wrongful dismissal allegation,” the FA said in a statement. “The Liverpool midfielder was sent off for a serious foul during the Premier League match against Bournemouth on Saturday 19 August.”
“I saw him again,” said Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp after the game. “I think given the number of times I’ve been asked, it’s worth bringing up again, which we probably will.
“Alexis told me she touched him, but not really. When you have a list of points where you can get a penalty other than touching, there are no other boxes ticked. Had it been a yellow card, it wouldn’t have been rescinded, but since it’s a red card and there’s a contact the VAR doesn’t cancel it, blah, blah.
“The 40-minute penalty with ten men is a penalty in itself. I don’t know if we should talk to the authorities. We have seen more difficult challenges that weren’t red cards.
The Liverpool home shirt for the 2023/24 season pays tribute to Bill Shankly and the legendary Reds manager’s last season at Anfield. The Nike top comes in a bright red design with a striking white contrast on the color and cuffs.

While Liverpool were not happy with the decision to send Mac Allister off, former referee Mike Dean had a different opinion. During his Soccer Saturday speech, Dean explained why he felt this call was warranted.
“He’s come in pretty high,” said the former official. “There’s not a lot of power in the challenge, but he’s taken it pretty high. It’s just a lazy leg. “Probably he shouldn’t accept the challenge. He hit him on the shin. It’s not a bad decision by the referee.”
“He came in with his studs uncovered and took him on the shin. The VAR would have taken care of it. They are satisfied with Tom [referee Thomas Brammall]’s decision and the game begins.
Despite Mac Allister’s absence for most of the second half, Liverpool still managed to take all three points. Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah had helped the Reds recover after falling behind after an early try from Antoine Semenyo and Diogo Jota secured the points for the ten men.
Mac Allister’s decision means he is now available for Liverpool’s upcoming games. Next up for the Reds is a trip to Newcastle, followed by games against Aston Villa and Wolves either side of the international break.
