OXNARD, Calif. — Week two of the Cowboys training camp in Oxnard has seen the club transition to exercising with pads, and following practice on Friday, general manager and owner Jerry Jones spent seven minutes speaking with the media.
Jones covered a wide range of subjects in his speech, including the ongoing contract extension talks between CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott and the players that stand out on the River Ridge Complex fields.

Talks About Extension ‘Progressing‘
While Stephen Jones, the son of the team’s executive vice president, provided an update on Sunday stating that the front office had received an offer from CeeDee Lamb’s representation, Jerry Jones said the team is still working on it as Lamb’s absence from training camp extends into the second week.
“I think they are just getting better,”
Jones remarked. Jones used similar language while discussing his talks with Dak Prescott, the team’s franchise quarterback, since the two parties have been in closer contact since training camp began.
“I would say we are talking, I would not have a legitimate progress point there at all,” he stated. “At the moment, I also do not have it for Lamb. It is not a bad thing; I just do not think discussing it will help things move forward.”
Speaking of large contracts, Micah Parsons is set to receive a record-breaking contract extension soon, which might propel him to the status of one of the best paid defenders of all time. Despite the fact that there are currently some higher orders on the list, Jones is not discounting this procedure.
“He is not a backburner issue, but that is not the point,” Jones stated. “I believe Micah is unquestionably an important member of the Cowboys. He is actually just getting started, in my opinion.It pains me to admit that he is not in the spotlight. He takes centre stage. His prospective future in relation to contracts influences how we currently view contracts. He is there in that sense.
Jerry’s Camp Favorites
Jerry Jones, along with senior personnel department officials, has seen a lot of practice from above in his owner’s box, and he is thinking back on a few standout players from the first week and a half of camp in Oxnard. “I like our young linemen, across the board on both sides,” Jones stated.
“I really enjoy those guys. You are going to be thrilled about [DeMarvion] Overshown. both thrilled for us and for him. Those guys are in my memory.”
The rivalry for centre stage is gaining prominence, and Jones has been intently observing the match between Brock Hoffman, Cooper Beebe, and Dakoda Shepley. “I like the competition, and it is real,” he stated.
“I enjoy that rivalry. I genuinely appreciate the balance of youth, depth, and experience that makes up our offensive line. The offensive line makes me feel better than it has ever felt.”
Jones observes two players from the previous campaign going above and above in Mike McCarthy’s offensive strategy this year.
He declared, “I like [KaVontae] Turpin.” “I really enjoy him. I am impressed with the effort that Hunter Luepke, our fullback, is doing. He is a key player who will undoubtedly play a significant role in this offence and is deserving of it. Like everyone else, Mike McCarthy adores his adaptability. Those tight ends are sure to wow.
Zimmer’s Return
Jones was questioned about how Mike Zimmer’s role as defensive coordinator has changed and whether or not he is still the “in-your-face” leader on that side of the ball. Though he acknowledged the steps he is taking in the years since he was last in the building, Jones swiftly concurred.
“Smarter, more seasoned and basically I would say he is got such respect as he would have it since he is been very successful,” he stated. “Respect is higher. There is just an extra respect, but he had a lot while he was here.”
Fears About Crowding?
The media made headlines earlier this week about the shrinking numbers of people attending open practices at training camp, and Jones stated he has been aware of the crowds from the beginning. He doesn’t, however, have any worries.
“Not really,” he responded. “I observe the crowd in the same way as you do, and while I do not precisely associate it with the date, the crowd on opening day here seemed remarkably similar to the one we have grown accustomed to.” Although I have observed some afternoons when it was not completely packed, I am aware that there will likely be 100,000 people here given the traffic bottlenecks and distances to go to enter. We are not concerned about it.”
Remarks on Sam Williams
Jerry Jones has been ecstatic with Sam Williams ever since he moved to Dallas, and this season, Jones believes that Williams’ progress will soar on the field. But after suffering an ACL injury earlier this week that ended his season, Jones gave encouragement for his future recuperation.
“Just killed me,” declared Jones. “We need to wrap our arms around Sam in particular, and we will. He feels that no one affects them in the same manner that he does. From a team perspective, it is painful.
