Getty Cowboys Potential Draft Target Tetairoa McMillan
While questions about the Cowboys’ capacity to recover from the struggles of the 2024 NFL season linger, fans can engage in a more uplifting exercise by considering potential player acquisitions for 2025.
The upcoming 2025 NFL draft promises a wealth of talent at both running back and wide receiver—positions where depth is urgently required. Although local favorite Ashton Jeanty is generating buzz as a possible target for the Cowboys, it’s worth paying attention to the wide receiver prospects coming into the league next year.
ESPN is certainly monitoring this situation. The Cowboys appear only moderately confident in former third-round pick Jalen Tolbert as a viable No. 2 wide receiver, especially with Brandin Cooks heading toward free agency. This context has led ESPN to identify Arizona star Tetairoa McMillan as an ideal complement to star CeeDee Lamb.
Cowboys Would Be ‘Perfect’ for Tetairoa McMillan
Although the Arizona offense has underperformed this year, McMillan has excelled, leading the Big 12 with 982 receiving yards in eight games, including a standout 10-catch, 202-yard performance against West Virginia last week.
A junior, McMillan has accumulated 3,086 yards over 33 collegiate games. He briefly considered leaving the Wildcats and entered the transfer portal but ultimately chose to return alongside quarterback Noah Fifita.
One challenge for the Cowboys could be securing McMillan. While other receiving talents like Luther Burden, Isaiah Bond, and Emeka Egbuka are also in contention to be the first receiver selected in the draft, none have matched McMillan’s performance this season. He currently ranks as the No. 2 prospect on the Pro Football Focus draft Big Board.
In an article titled, “2025 NFL draft: Team fits for 10 college football prospects,” ESPN draft analyst *Matt Miller* highlighted McMillan as a “perfect” fit for the Cowboys.
“Dallas is in desperate need of more options in the passing game, and McMillan’s ability to win jump balls with his great length would work beautifully alongside CeeDee Lamb,” he remarked.
“McMillan’s 6-foot-5, 212-pound frame makes him dynamic on 50-50 balls in both the red zone and the open field. He has also demonstrated enough speed after the catch to be effective on screens and short routes where he can run post-catch. The Cowboys must expand their passing game, and McMillan’s size and big-play capability would help prevent defenses from overly focusing on Lamb.”
