Lions coach Dan Campbell provided the latest updates on the injuries of Graham Glasgow, Alex Anzalone, and Jalen Reeves-Maybin after the team’s 34-17 victory over the Chicago Bears.
Several Detroit Lions players are set to return to the lineup, potentially in the near future. On Monday, Campbell offered mostly positive news regarding their injury status. Here’s the latest:
Graham Glasgow is set to return… and will start
Lions left guard Graham Glasgow missed last week’s game due to a knee injury, but Campbell expects him to be back this week.
“Yeah, I see Graham coming back,” Campbell stated. “I think he’s going to be ready to roll.”
With Glasgow sidelined, rookie Christian Mahogany made his first career start against the Bears. Campbell found Mahogany’s debut encouraging.
“It was encouraging,” Campbell said. “I did think he tried to play violent. It was not too big for him. I thought Frank (Ragnow) and (Taylor) Decker and them helped him out, sandwiched between those two. And I thought, man, first time out—he was another guy, he didn’t get to play any preseason as a rookie, but he’s continued to just get better and better.”
Despite the solid performance by Mahogany, Glasgow will reclaim his starting role.
“He’s going to slip right back at left guard and start for us and be great,” Campbell affirmed.
Jalen Reeves-Maybin could return this week
Linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin, who began his 21-day evaluation window last week after being placed on injured reserve, may be ready to play soon. Campbell didn’t make any firm promises but noted that Reeves-Maybin could potentially be activated this week.
“We’ll see where Germ (Reeves-Maybin) is at. He’s somebody that’s a potential candidate (to return), Jalen Reeves-Maybin,” Campbell explained. “We started him last week, he got a practice or two, we’re going to give him more this week, see how he feels, where it’s at. He is somebody that could potentially be brought up.”
If Reeves-Maybin isn’t ready to play, the Lions have several linebackers who have stepped up recently. Against the Bears, the team relied on Jack Campbell, Ben Niemann, Trevor Nowaske, Ezekiel Turner, and Anthony Pittman.
Niemann even received praise from his head coach.
“Ben Niemann did some really good things,” Campbell remarked.
Alex Anzalone may not be ready this week
Anzalone, who has been on injured reserve since breaking his forearm against the Jaguars in Week 11, is nearing a return, but Campbell isn’t sure if he’ll practice this week.
“It’s close. I don’t know about this week, (but) it’s close,” Campbell said.
Anzalone is eligible to come off injured reserve as soon as he is ready.
