A Preview of the Gamecocks’ Football Roster Ahead of Spring Practice

It's hard to say if it's truly over. Just this past Friday, a Wisconsin player

COLUMBIA — It’s hard to say if it’s truly over. Just this past Friday, a Wisconsin player left for Miami without entering the transfer portal, despite already signing a revenue-sharing agreement with the Badgers.

However, following the departures of several players after South Carolina’s regular season ended, some more left after the Citrus Bowl, while newcomers and freshmen joined. Additionally, others left early for the NFL—one in particular making a very early exit. As spring practice approaches, the Gamecocks’ roster is starting to take shape.

Departures: Seniors: OL Kamaar Bell, QB Davis Beville, DB Joseph Byrnes, WR Dalevon Campbell, Edge Gilber Edmond, DB King Demenian-Ford, CB O’Donnell Fortune, DT Tonka Hemingway, PK Alex Herrera, DT Boogie Huntley, DT DeAndre Jules, LB Demetrius Knight, P Kai Kroeger, WR Gage Larvadain, C Vershon Lee, LB Bam Martin-Scott, RB Juju McDowell, WR Aaron Morton, LS Hunter Rogers, RB Rocket Sanders, TE Josh Simon, OL Torricelli Simpkins, DB David Spaulding, LB Debo Williams

Martin-Scott may have a chance to return, thanks to the Diego Pavia rule, which allows junior college eligibility to not count against a player’s full college clock. However, it’s unlikely since Martin-Scott started his eligibility a year before Pavia. Currently, the Gamecocks’ 2025 roster does not list Martin-Scott, and his No. 22 jersey has already been reassigned.

Transfers (with new school, if applicable): LB Bangally Kamara (Kansas, left midseason), OL Ni Mansell (South Alabama), DT Jamaal Whyce, LB Mo Kaba, WR Tyshawn Russell (Syracuse), TE Reid Mikeska (Florida Atlantic), RB DJay Braswell (Georgia State), PK Daniel Lester, WR C.J. Adams, TE Connor Cox (North Carolina), WR Debron Gatling (Georgia Tech), WR Elijah Caldwell, TE Nick Elksnis (UNLV), QB Robby Ashford (Wake Forest), Edge Elijah Davis, WR Payton Mangrum, OL Aaryn Parks

NFL draft underclassmen: Edge Kyle Kennard, DT T.J. Sanders, S Nick Emmanwori

Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains departed to become the head coach at Appalachian State.

Compared to last year, the Gamecocks’ roster has seen fewer key departures. Ashford, LaNorris Sellers’ primary backup at quarterback who started in the win over Akron, and Mangrum, who had several snaps but didn’t make a major impact as a receiver, were the only ones who played significant roles this season.

Mike Shula was promoted to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach to fill Loggains’ position.

This class was primarily focused on addressing key needs, especially at receiver, linebacker, and kicker. Seven freshmen — Woods, Williams, Clark, Cyrus, Gidron, Rowe, and Sellers, LaNorris’ younger brother — enrolled early and participated in bowl practice with the Gamecocks.

The remaining newcomers, including Hatfield, Kelley, Ingram, Murph, Tyler, and Sakyi-Prah, will join in the summer and will not participate in spring practice.
