Manchester United have renewed their interest in signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, but the Frenchman has already risked the wrath of Red Devils fans with his admission to Liverpool.
Adrien Rabiot may have to win over Manchester United fans if he moves to Old Trafford after admitting he’s a Liverpool fan.
The Red Devils renewed their interest in the French midfielder this week after he failed in their attempts to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea. They made three offers for the English star, all of which were rejected by the Blues
Rabiot has been identified as a cheaper alternative as his contract with Juventus expires later this month.
The Red Devils have started a new round of talks with the former PSG star after they were previously linked with a move for him 12 months ago.
Rabiot quickly risked the wrath of supporters of his would-be new employers by admitting that he is an active fan of the Red Devils’ fierce rivals Liverpool. Earlier this season he said:
“I loved Liverpool so much because I was a Steven Gerrard fan who made me dream and that’s why I followed the Reds. My other idol was Zidane.”
This is not the first time that Rabiot has confessed his affection for the Merseysiders. He also claimed he was a fan in 2017 while still at PSG.
“There are a lot of very good leagues,” Rabiot told RMC. “It’s also an enrichment to go elsewhere, but for now I’m happy at PSG.”
“I would love to play in the Premier League. There isn’t necessarily a particular club, although I was a huge Liverpool fan growing up.”
While Rabiot could pull on a red shirt and play at Old Trafford next season, the same could have been said a year ago. A deal fell through as United couldn’t agree personal terms with the Frenchman and his agent.
To make matters worse, Rabiot admitted he was “lucky” a move was not completed. In November, the midfielder said: “It’s true, there have been contacts in the Premier League.
