With the Detroit Lions’ offseason underway, there is growing excitement about which players the team may target to bolster their chances for a Super Bowl run in 2025.
A major event in the pre-draft offseason is the Senior Bowl, held in Mobile, Alabama, where NFL teams gather to evaluate many of the top prospects in this year’s draft class. These players will participate in practices from Tuesday to Thursday, culminating in a game on Saturday.
Here’s a look at one standout player at each offensive position to watch at this week’s Senior Bowl:
Quarterback: Jalen Milroe, Alabama
Milroe is an intriguing prospect in this year’s quarterback class. He possesses the physical tools and athleticism to succeed but has struggled at times with precision and accuracy. His mobility and ability to make big plays on the move, whether on scrambles or designed runs, offer something the Lions currently lack with Jared Goff. Milroe is projected as a Day 2 pick, and his potential to contribute early in specialized packages makes him worth keeping an eye on.
Running back: Cam Skattebo, Arizona State
As the driving force behind Arizona State’s College Football Playoff push, Skattebo stands out as one of the top running backs in the class. A powerful, physical runner with the added ability to contribute as a pass-catcher, Skattebo could be a dynamic addition. While Detroit’s backfield, featuring Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, is already strong, adding another versatile player could make their offense even more potent.
Wide receiver: Elic Ayomanor, Stanford
Ayomanor impressed with his ability to succeed despite inconsistent quarterback play at Stanford. He boasts strong speed, a physical frame for contested catches, and the agility to make an impact on deep routes at the next level. Though he’s occasionally struggled with drops, Ayomanor has shown reliable hands and could be a valuable asset to the Lions with his contested catch ability and motor on tape.
Tight end: Fannin, Bowling Green
Entering the year as one of the best-kept secrets in the Group of Five, Fannin now has a well-earned reputation after leading the nation’s tight ends with 117 receptions, 1,555 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns. A versatile player at Bowling Green, his performance at the Senior Bowl will put him in front of top evaluators. As a Michigan native, Fannin could be a solid addition to Detroit’s offense, complementing Sam LaPorta.
Offensive tackle: Grey Zabel, North Dakota State
An FCS All-American who played in 62 career games, Zabel is making his mark at the Senior Bowl. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed just seven pressures and one sack in 2024. Standing at 6-foot-5, Zabel has the agility needed to succeed and will have the opportunity to compete against top EDGE prospects, making him a candidate to rise through the ranks during the event.
Interior offensive line: Garrett Dellinger, LSU
LSU’s offensive line is stacked with draftable talent, and while Will Campbell is the standout, Dellinger is an interior lineman to watch. Though he has dealt with injuries, his potential remains high. A wide-bodied, agile lineman, Dellinger earned a 69.3 overall run-blocking grade from PFF. As a Michigan native from Clarkston High School, he has the chance to make a strong statement about his abilities at the Senior Bowl.
