Lions Fans Still Reeling from Shocking Playoff Loss as Super Bowl Sunday Arrives
As Super Bowl Sunday approaches, Detroit Lions fans are still grappling with the heartbreak of their surprising divisional-round exit earlier this year. After their stunning loss to the Washington Commanders in January, it seems many fans aren’t quite ready to enjoy the festivities of Super Bowl LIX.
In the days leading up to the big game, MLive conducted an anonymous survey to gauge how Detroit Lions fans were coping with the loss. Many fans expressed ongoing disappointment, especially considering the Lions’ impressive regular-season record of 15-2, which earned them the No. 1 seed—only for them to fall short against the No. 6 seed Commanders.
When asked if they had moved on from the loss, responses were mixed. One fan from Michigan shared, “No, all my Lions gear is put away until next season.” Meanwhile, an Illinois resident added, “Absolutely not! A 15-2 season meant nothing.”
What Do Fans Believe the Lions Need to Reach the Super Bowl?
In addition to reflecting on their team’s playoff disappointment, the survey also asked fans what the Lions need to do to finally secure their first Super Bowl appearance. One fan from Louisiana emphasized the importance of health, noting, “More than anything, they need HEALTH! Hutch needs to return to form and get some secondary pass-rush support. The open CB spot is pretty glaring right now.”
Super Bowl LVII: Chiefs vs. Eagles – Fan Predictions and Super Bowl Thoughts
As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, MLive also asked fans to share their thoughts on the upcoming game. Though many fans are still focused on the Lions’ fate, here’s a look at some of the responses from the survey regarding the big game:
- “Whatever my squares are. GO LIONS!”
- “2-0 Eagles. Hate em both.”
- “Chiefs 24-21”
- “Eagles 34-31”
- “I am rooting for the asteroid! Final 1-0… lol”
- “Won’t be watching…don’t care!!”
Lions’ Road to the Super Bowl: What Fans Think They Need
When it comes to what the Lions need to reach the Super Bowl, fans have a clear message: strengthen the defense. Multiple responses focused on the need for a better pass rush and additional defensive support. One fan simply stated, “DE-FENCE!!!!!!,” while another added, “edge rusher.”
Other fans pointed out the need for healthy players and more depth on defense: “More than anything they need HEALTH! Hutch needs help,” said one respondent. Others suggested bolstering the secondary, with one fan saying, “Be healthy next year, but also another CB and safety.”
It’s clear that while the Lions’ disappointing playoff loss still weighs heavily on the minds of many fans, there’s hope that with the right adjustments, Detroit can finally make its Super Bowl dream a reality.
