Lions trade forecast brings 6-time All-Pro to create iconic pass-rush duo

Myles Garrett

The Philadelphia Eagles’ dominant Super Bowl performance on Sunday night should be a wake-up call for the Detroit Lions, particularly when it comes to building a top-tier defensive line. The Eagles’ relentless pass-rush overwhelmed Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who struggled to find any rhythm on offense as the Eagles were all over him. What’s more, the Eagles didn’t even need to blitz, giving them the advantage of dropping extra defenders into coverage and keeping Mahomes at bay.

As the Lions gear up for a Super Bowl run in 2025, strengthening their pass-rush becomes more critical than ever. To do that, Detroit needs both a long-term partner for Aidan Hutchinson on the defensive line and added depth to support their front.

Enter Myles Garrett, the superstar edge rusher for the Cleveland Browns, who recently requested a trade, looking to escape his years in Cleveland and chase a Super Bowl with a contending team. “I’m willing to do whatever it takes (to make a trade happen),” Garrett told ESPN’s Tedy Bruschi. “I want to have a chance to win those big games, to go out there and compete, to elevate a team as a player, as a teammate, as a leader, and just come in and have an immediate effect.”

Following Garrett’s trade request, Seth Trachtman of Yardbarker speculated that Detroit could be a likely landing spot for the defensive powerhouse. “Garrett has demanded a trade out of Cleveland, and there should be plenty of interesting suitors,” Trachtman wrote. “As the Lions try to win now before their Super Bowl window closes, it’s a great time to add Garrett opposite star Aidan Hutchinson.”

Myles Garrett

A move for Garrett would be a game-changer for the Lions. He would create a dynamic and fearsome pass-rush duo with Hutchinson and give Detroit a front loaded with talent, including Alim McNeill. Together, they could form one of the most intimidating defensive lines in the league, vastly improving the Lions’ chances of securing their first Super Bowl.

Now, what would it take to make this happen? The Lions will likely have to part with at least a first-round pick, with a second pick or potentially even a player also involved in the deal. It’s going to be a steep price, but when you’re talking about a generational talent like Garrett, the cost is justified.

Garrett still has two years left on his contract, meaning he wouldn’t be a short-term rental. The Lions could even extend him beyond that to lock down their defensive future. If Brad Holmes, Detroit’s general manager, has any interest in making a bold move for a true game-changer, he should seriously consider pulling the trigger on a trade for Garrett—he’s exactly the type of player that could push the Lions over the top in their quest for a Super Bowl.
