Liverpool are now reportedly fearing they will not be able to sign Joao Palhinha this summer as the Fulham midfielder picked up a pre-season injury this week.
According to the Daily Mail, the Reds are waiting to see if they can switch for the Portugal international after Palhinha was sidelined by a dislocated shoulder against Brentford in Philadelphia.
Palhinha, valued at £60m by the Cottagers, is a target for Liverpool to replace Fabinho who has moved to Saudi Arabia, but this injury could prevent the Anfield side from signing the Fulham star.
With West Ham also interested in signing Palhinha, Liverpool already face a hurdle in their bid to land the 28-year-old Dynamo at Anfield this summer.
And this latest injury update will do Liverpool a favor as Jurgen Klopp is running out of time to sign a midfielder to replace Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. Indeed, the severity of Palhinha’s injury remains to be determined. But with Liverpool now sweating over the midfield, it’s likely a deal could now be scrapped for this summer.
Palhinha at Liverpool could now be put on ice until January
Palhinha being out for the next few weeks could all but ruin Liverpool’s chances of signing the midfielder this summer. And therefore, a deal may now have to be put on hold until the January window.
A dislocated shoulder could realistically keep Palhinha out until September, just after the summer market closes, meaning Liverpool should now consider new targets for the midfield position.
While Liverpool are likely already considering other options, Palhinha could have been a dream signing for the Reds and this injury came at the worst possible time for Klopp and his team.
