In a live update, Amon-Ra St. Brown, the All-Pro wide receiver, is eager to prove what a fully healthy Detroit Lions team can do in 2025. After their historic 15-2 regular season in 2024, which secured the top NFC playoff spot, the Lions were ultimately sidelined by a series of brutal injuries, especially to their defense. This left little room for error, and they were eliminated by the Washington Commanders in the divisional round. But now, as they look ahead to 2025, there’s a palpable sense of anticipation.
Amon-Ra St. Brown, who was named to the first-team All-Pro roster in 2024, has made it clear that he’s ready to show the NFL just how competitive a healthy Lions squad can be. In fact, he’s so eager that he wants to take on the defending Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, in the season opener.
Speaking on his St. Brown Podcast alongside his brothers, Osiris and Equanimeous, St. Brown expressed his desire for the Lions to be selected as the team to face the Eagles in the 2025 NFL season opener. “Eagles have the home opener next year because they won the Super Bowl,” St. Brown noted. “Can I read you the list of teams that could be in that first game? Commanders, Cowboys, Giants, Bears, Lions, Raiders, Rams, Broncos. Out of all those teams, if you’re the NFL, who are you putting in there?”
When his brothers agreed that the Lions should be the choice, St. Brown responded with excitement. “That’s what I’m saying. So we might be playing opening night.”
Later, St. Brown confidently added, “You would see what our healthy defense, how that s— operates,” emphasizing how important it is for the league to see what the Lions can do at full strength.
While the Lions and Eagles were both top contenders in the NFC playoffs last season, an NFC Championship game between the two teams was never realized due to injuries and missed opportunities. However, St. Brown’s enthusiasm shows he’s ready for a chance to showcase his team’s full potential, especially after such a dominant run by the Eagles.
We’ll have to wait a few months to see whether the Lions will indeed open the 2025 season against the Eagles, but one thing’s for sure—St. Brown is ready for the challenge.
