Manchester United’s initial offer for Andre Onana was £38.5m (€45m) but Inter Milan value the keeper at £51m (€60m) .
The clubs are therefore trying to find a compromise. The 27-year-old former Cameroon international joined Inter on a five-year deal from Ajax last summer
Manchester United remain in dialogue with Inter Milan to find a compromise over Andre Onana’s transfer fee, which could be around £45m (€52.5m) including surcharges.
The Serie A side’s total value for their goalkeeper is £51m (€60m) and public sentiment dictates that he will stay at the club unless that amount is reached.
United’s opening bid of £38.5m (€45m) was duly rejected but sources close to the player believe all parties are keen to find a solution before the offer is made. Onana for the July 13 Inter pre-season is released.
The 27-year-old has made clear his intention to move to Old Trafford and reunite with his former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.
Sky Sports News have been told they are optimistic an offer of around £40m up front plus £5m in add-ons could result in a deal. United have been very strong in not bending their price points this summer.
Onana’s desire to join the club, plus Ten Hag’s suitability and understanding of demands in his position, make him their main goalkeeper.
However, United are continuing to do due diligence on other options – including Justin Bijlow, David Raya and Diogo Costa – in case an agreement cannot be reached with Inter Milan.
“Goalkeeper and striker now priority at Man Utd”
“It appears Manchester United’s two main positions are now goalkeeper and forward. Where the goalkeeper position is on the priority list, it seems to fluctuate almost every week with David De Gea’s future so uncertain.”
His contract is clearly out now, but we have been told that dialogue between the club and De Gea on a new contract remains open.
“But United, as any big club would do in that situation, are doing due diligence with other goalkeepers and have now made a move for Inter Milan’s Andre Onana. However, there is a gap in the assessment as it is said that the Inter have a man who wants to have sixty million euros.” (£51m).
“There is a feeling that a compromise can be made, but if that doesn’t work, United will look for alternatives to Onana as the De Gea situation looms in the background.
“Regarding Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund, there is also a rating gap in that deal but United are continuing to work on it.”
