Arsenal have unveiled a statue of legendary former manager Arsene Wenger outside the Emirates Stadium.
Wenger was head coach of the north London club from 1996 to 2018, winning three Premier League titles and a record seven FA Cups while qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for 20 consecutive years. His statue in front of the North Bank stands shows the Frenchman with the Premier League trophy.
The current head of FIFA’s global football development will also be the guest of honor at next Wednesday’s Gunners friendly against Monaco, which he also over saw.Arsenal executive vice-chairman Tim Lewis has been full of praise for the 73-year-old, hailing his leadership qualities during his time at the club.
“We are delighted to recognize and celebrate Arsene Wenger’s outstanding leadership and career with Arsenal Football Club,” Lewis told the club’s official media team.
“Arsene’s contributions and achievements to the club make him the best manager of the club. He has given the club and its supporters many fantastic trophies and memories, revolutionizing the management of the club, an unbeaten season and a move to the Emirates Stadium.
“It is therefore fitting that, as a mark of the club’s enduring respect and gratitude, a beautiful statue of Arsene now stands outside the Emirates Stadium. It is a place where our supporters and anyone who visits the Emirates Stadium can remember the contribution of Arsène and his legacy.\”
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who played for Wenger between 2011 and 2016, has also expressed his admiration for the Frenchman. “It’s a great tribute that the club did something special for Arsène that he fully deserves and deserves,” added Arteta.
“With a statue in the stadium, Arsène can enjoy this recognition and stay at our club forever. I’m so grateful to have played for Arsène at this club during my career.”
