Arsenal will lead Manchester United to key target in summer spending: report

Arsenal and Manchester United are battling for the same goal, with the Gunners potentially first to strike a deal

Arsenal could be on the verge of beating Manchester United to a key goal this summer as spending-happy Mikel Arteta resumes his summer tour.

The Gunners have already taken action for Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber to take the spend to around £200million, with the spend now taking center stage. Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Folarin Balogun could all leave the Emirates Stadium.

Manchester United, meanwhile, signed Mason Mount but missed out on Kim Min-jae to Bayern Munich, according to Fabrizio Romano – and could now lose another key target to Arsenal.

BILD in Germany have reported that the Gunners are considering Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong for their squad, with Arteta reportedly interested in another right-back as cover at either end.

Frimpong is certainly a suitable player as a player who can operate on either wing, although United have been linked in the past. Earlier this year, another German outlet, Kicker, reported that Dutch was on Erik ten Hag’s radar.

Curiously, Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda has been mentioned as a potential replacement for the Leverkusen full-back, another player Arsenal are keen to sign.

Frimpong may not be seen as a priority at Old Trafford this summer despite Ten Hag’s appreciation of the player, as he has both Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back.

Arsenal would also be in the market for another central midfielder alongside Declan Rice. Frimpong is valued at around €40m by Transfermarkt.
