Caoimhin Kelleher clarifies his position as two clubs negotiate a goalkeeper transfer

While Liverpool could count on Caoimhin Kelleher’s transfer, three Premier League clubs that have shown interest in the summer could have moved on.

Having made just four appearances last season and already proving himself worthy of the regular role, Kelleher is set to leave Anfield this summer.

The Irishman, who turns 25 in November, would certainly benefit from being considered a No.1 elsewhere as Alisson is adamant between positions at Liverpool.

As of this writing, there are no signs that Kelleher has asked for an exit, but growing interest across the Premier League has suggested he has options.
Brighton, Brentford and Tottenham would all have been on the cork trail, but things now appear to have changed.

The first step came when Brighton signed Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht. Athletic have reported that they are ‘close’ to signing the 20-year-old Dutchman. Verbruggen is expected to move for around £17m, which could convince his other suitors, Burnley, to move in with ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Kamil Grabara.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports reported on Thursday that Tottenham had verbally agreed an initial £17.2million deal with Empoli for Guglielmo Vicario.

This is because Tottenham are “reluctant” to meet Brentford’s requests for their goalkeeper David Raya, which could lead to the Spaniard staying with the Bees.

If Brighton and Tottenham were to be left out, only Brentford from that first wave of clubs would be interested in Kelleher.

But whether they will try to retain Raya remains to be seen as he has been described as “unlikely” to sign a contract extension which expires next year. Kelleher could therefore still stay at Liverpool next season, something Jurgen Klopp has been insisting on for a long time.

“Honestly, I can’t imagine Caoimh leaving,” he said in May.
“It must be an exceptional offer for me to think about [selling him], I must say.”

The Liverpool No.62 last signed a new contract in 2021, tying him to the club until 2026 when he will be 27.
