Manchester United’s Mason Mount nearly completed medical treatment on Monday
Mason Mount will undergo a medical at Manchester United on Monday as he prepares to sign a long-term deal at Old Trafford, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
The medical is the next important step after both clubs have agreed on the transfer fee.
The deal is believed to be worth £55m, with a further £5m in add-ons. Mount, whose current contract with Chelsea is for just 12 months, will move to Old Trafford this week.
Previously, there had been indications that Manchester United were considering alternative options, as Chelsea initially rejected the £55m offer.
After the negotiations, it appears that both Premier League giants have reached a compromise on the transfer of the English midfielder. The 24-year-old striker now signs a five-year contract with United.
According to journalist Romano, Mount will undergo a medical on Monday, coinciding with the start of United’s pre-season.
The 24-year-old playmaker is set to leave Stamford Bridge after contributing 33 goals and 37 assists in 195 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions.
However, Mount struggled to find his footing at Chelsea last season as he scored just three goals and registered six assists in 35 appearances in different competitions.
His performance was hampered by an injury which saw him sidelined for the end of the 2022-23 season due to pelvic surgery.
The midfielder is set to complete his move to United this week and it’s possible he will make his debut for the club in the pre-season game against Leeds United on July 12.
United’s busy pre-season schedule includes games against Lyon, Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lens and Athletic Bilbao.
Mount’s official debut for the Red Devils could come on August 14 against Wolverhampton Wanderers as United aim to start their Premier League season with a win. Fans will be eagerly awaiting the 24-year-old in the famous red shirt.
Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag’s side will continue to actively pursue further signings this summer, with a particular focus on bringing in a new centre-forward and at least one goalkeeper.
However, the exact budget available for transfers remains uncertain due to the ongoing takeover situation at the club.
The financial implications of the potential takeover could affect the club’s ability to make significant investments in the current market.
Fans will be watching the latest developments closely as United make their first mark in the ongoing summer transfer window.
