Chelsea suffer £52million pre-season injury scare ahead of Liverpool clash

After twenty minutes of their friendly match against Borussia Dortmund, the former RB Leipzig forward had to be substituted.

Prior to their first preseason match against Liverpool, Chelsea is anxious about Christopher Nkunku’s health after the forward was substituted out of a friendly match against Borussia Dortmund after just 20 minutes.

Up until now, the £52 million summer acquisition has had a successful preseason, scoring goals against Wrexham, Brighton, and Fulham. As a member of Chelsea’s new-look attack this season, he already appears to have adapted to life in Chelsea.

But on August 13, when they play Liverpool in the Premier League, he might not be available.
As a result of a challenge that left him hobbling off with ice wrapped around his knee, the 25-year-old was substituted after just 22 minutes.

Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Chelsea, was able to clarify the situation in his post-match interview, saying, “The doctors are checking him.”.
Though he felt something in his knee, he missed the opportunity to score.

“Perhaps it won’t be a major problem and he can work quickly with the team.”.
It is difficult to know until we return to London, so it will take us a few days to evaluate him.

“While I believe the circumstances were a little unfortunate, we cannot hold the pitch responsible for the injury he sustained and voice grievances about it.
That was unlucky for me.

After scoring 16 goals in 25 games the previous season, including six assists, he won the Bundesliga top scorer award.

His remarkable 2021/22 season, in which he recorded 35 goals and 20 assists, was followed by his 23 goals across all competitions.
He has a solid reputation thanks to his time spent in Germany.

Following their successful, undefeated preseason, Chelsea will shortly return to London to get ready for their Premier League opener against Jurgen Klopp’s team at Stamford Bridge.
