Cowboys Pro Bowl Guard Ranked Among Top NFL Free Agents for 2025

Zack Martin

This season has not gone according to plan for the Dallas Cowboys, prompting a shift in focus to the future. Unfortunately, the outlook remains grim.

Not only have the Cowboys become unusually tight with their spending in free agency, but they’ve also started to overlook their own upcoming free agents. Several key players departed this offseason, and more are set to hit free agency in 2025.

One notable player likely to test the market is seven-time All-Pro Zack Martin.

A veteran of 11 seasons, Martin is expected to leave in the offseason, according to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report. While Knox acknowledges that Martin is no longer at his peak, particularly highlighting the increased number of pressures he’s allowed this season, he still believes Martin can be valuable to another team.

“In pass protection, the soon-to-be 34-year-old just hasn’t looked as sharp as he did in years past. He hasn’t shown the same ability to recover from poor initial blocks that he did early in his career, which has led to more interior pressures than the Cowboys would like.”

Despite this decline, Knox views Martin as a potential one- or two-year starter for a team like the Chicago Bears or Los Angeles Chargers. Still a strong run blocker, Martin could be the final piece for a team on the verge of success.

Losing Martin would be a significant setback for the Cowboys’ offensive line, but it seems inevitable given how Jerry Jones and the front office have handled free agency in recent years.

Jerry Jones and Cowboys view Micah Parsons as a key part of their future

Saints dismiss Dennis Allen, while Cowboys fans urge Jerry Jones to part ways with Mike McCarthy

As the trade deadline approached last week, there was some speculation surrounding the possibility of the Dallas Cowboys trading Micah Parsons. However, this speculation was unfounded, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear that Parsons is an essential part of the team’s future.

“No, absolutely not,” Jones stated on 105.3 The Fan when asked if the team had ever considered trading Parsons.

Parsons, who leads the team in pressures despite having been sidelined since Week 4 against the Giants, is expected to return to action this Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. Jones emphasized that he wants Parsons to remain with the team for the long haul.

“I wouldn’t because we want Micah Parsons, he’s integral to our future,” Jones explained when asked about the possibility of moving Parsons. “So ‘no’ is the big answer.”

This sentiment is shared by Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones and vice president of player personnel Will McClay, both of whom play key roles in decision-making for the team.

“We haven’t had one conversation, ever, about not having Micah Parsons on the team, ever,” Jones said.

With the trade rumors put to rest, Parsons and the Cowboys are now focused on snapping a three-game losing streak and securing their first home win of the 2024 season. When Parsons is cleared to return to the field, he won’t be limited by any sort of pitch count.

“Once I’m playing, I’m playing, that’s just the competitor in me…” Parsons said. “It’s hard to restrain that.”
