Darwin Nunez’s New Jersey number revealed and Liverpool fans believe it will make him a ‘monster’
It appears Darwin Nunez will take over Liverpool’s number 9 shirt next season and Reds fans believe he could do so.
Roberto Firmino has worn the number on Merseyside since 2017, but now that the Brazilian has left the club, fans have been wondering who would take his place.

However, it now appears Nunez, who signed for £85m last summer, may inherit the shirt.
Football Authentica have released a photo of their ready-made number 9 and ‘Darwin’ shirts, leading fans to believe this would suggest the 23-year-old will be using that number for the 2023/24 season.
Should Nunez get that shirt, he will join a long list of Liverpool icons who have worn it, including Reds legend and former striker Fernando Torres. Announcement

It’s also the number Nunez wore during the latter stages of his career with Benfica before making his replacement in the Premier League.
Nunez was given the number 27 shirt in what was generally a mixed first season with Liverpool, scoring 15 goals in all competitions.
But now Reds fans are convinced he will be as prolific as he was in his last season in Portugal – scoring 34 goals in 41 games – should he become the club’s number 9.
“New song. New player. New monster,” wrote one fan in response to the Football Authentica image floating around on social media. Announcement
Meanwhile, another said: ‘A new issue would do his confidence a world of good. A better number, more responsibilities and a new number might help him. The only downside is people bought his old number lol.
And one fan even thinks he can match Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland’s tally of 36 goals in 35 games in his new shirt.
“Darwin Nunez tops Haaland next season,” they wrote. “I’ll be there no matter what.”

No pressure, Darwin!
