Djordje Petrovic is wanted by Manchester United, who sees him as a backup goalkeeper.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are interested in signing New England Revolution star Djordje Petrovic as a substitute goalkeeper.

The Red Devils are currently unsure about David de Gea’s contract situation as his deal expires on June 30. The Spaniard is unwilling to take a pay cut and could leave as a free agent next month.

Against this backdrop, United have started looking for a new number one and Inter Milan’s Andre Onana is said to be the club’s priority target.

Meanwhile, it looks like United are also considering an assistant goalkeeper ahead of next season, with Dean Henderson likely to leave Old Trafford for good.

Tom Heaton could also be heading out in search of playing time and the Manchester Evening News claims Djordje is being watched closely.

The 23-year-old, who is also on the radar of several Premier League clubs, is a target for the Red Devils but they are yet to make contact with him.
Petrovic would be a good substitute keeper

Petrovic joined New England Revolution last April as a replacement for Matt Turner.
The Serbian international has had a brilliant first season in Major League Soccer. He made 3.9 saves per game with an impressive save rate of 76.

Still, he’s not the best when it comes to distribution from behind and that’s one of the reasons United don’t consider him for the number one role.

He averaged just 16 passes per appearance with an accuracy rate of 62%. Petrovic recorded five long balls per game with an accuracy of just 34%.
We think Petrovic would be a good addition with his good reflexes. United need a young goalkeeper to replace them as Heaton is no longer at his peak.
