Man Utd have made a third, improved offer for midfielder Mason Mount after Chelsea rejected their first two offers;
the Blues are thought to want nearly £65m; Chelsea have yet to review the offer; UTD is also monitoring Declan Rice’s situation; Rice is being chased by Arsenal and Man City
Manchester United have made a third-best offer for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.
United have already rejected two offers so far – the second one worth £50m including add-ons – and their new offer is said to be worth around £55m.
Chelsea have not yet evaluated the offer.
Chelsea are thought to be approaching the £65m mark, but United have a limit they cannot exceed for a player with only one year left on his contract.
United maintain a stake in West Ham captain Declan Rice and internal discussions have taken place over whether a deal could be approved.
Manchester City and Arsenal are also interested in Rice, with Sky Italia reporting that City are willing to pay £75m + £15m bonuses to be paid over two years for the midfielder.
Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio added on Friday that City had entered “advanced talks” to sign Rice, ahead of old suitors Arsenal.
Due to financial fair play rules, United are unlikely to spend much of their budget on one player, especially as they have other areas they want to strengthen.
For this reason, they are considering a number of other midfield options. However, potential player sales would increase their purchasing power
Erik ten Hag first met Mount when he was head coach at Ajax. The 18-year-old, on loan at Vitesse Arnhem, scored a free kick to give his side a third goal in a 3-2 win over Ajax in March 2018.
Ten Hag, then responsible for only his eighth game at Ajax, reportedly tried to sign Mount on loan from Chelsea for the Dutch club the following season.
Fourteen goals and ten assists in his first full season in senior football, mostly in central midfield, had caught Ten Hags’ attention.
Mount is unlikely to stay at Stamford Bridge with the midfielder unwilling to sign a new contract. Chelsea know it’s time to capitalize on a player who has just one year left on his contract. Ten Hag, it seems, might be about to get his man.
‘Mount likely to join Man Utd sooner or later’
“Manchester United should make a third offer for Mason Mount as they are interested in the player. But they are also looking at other midfielders which does not mean Mount is the only midfielder United are interested in.”
“Chelsea want around £65million for a player who has gone through their academy and training there.
He saw the future at Stamford Bridge at one point, so you can see why United want him.” “At the moment however, it’s a case of Chelsea waiting for them to get the amount they want. But you would expect Mount to be a Manchester United player by the end of the period.”
Mount and Man Utd a match made in heaven
“If we had this conversation a year ago, I think Mason Mount probably would have said he wants to spend the rest of his career at Chelsea, but his contract talks haven’t gone as Mount and his group had hoped.”
“He wants to get a similar figure to Chelsea’s top earners given what he’s already done at the club, but that hasn’t been the case and Chelsea’s offer is very different to what Mount is looking for.
“Mount is now ready for a new challenge and I think this could be a match made in heaven when you look at what Manchester United have been missing out on this season.
When they lost Casemiro through suspension and lost Christian Eriksen to injury, they made she really suffered. Mount has similar qualities to Eriksen but offers more legs in midfield, both in attack and defence.
“Forget what happened last season, Manchester United are getting a proven performer and great character.”
Who will be on the road this summer when the transfer window opens on June 14 and closes at 11 p.m. in England and midnight in Scotland on September 1?
