Five players to keep an eye on in NFL playoff games in 2024 during Super Wild Card Weekend

As the NFL playoffs get underway, DAZN names the players to watch out for.
Postseason football has arrived, and the schedule for the postseason has been decided. The NFL’s post-season tournament begins on Saturday with the Houston Texans hosting the Cleveland Browns, the first of six three-day Wild Card games. This follows eighteen brutal weeks of the regular season.

Fans of the NFL are in for a plethora of storylines, ranging from unlikely reunions and possible updates to rookie players experiencing their first taste of postseason action. Here are five players that, come Super Wild Card Weekend, will be critical to their team’s success.

CJ Stroud – Houston Texans

The Houston Texans take on the Cleveland Browns in a game that will feature a young vs elderly quarterback battle to start the postseason. One of the less likely stories of the second half of the season has been Joe Flacco’s comeback with the Browns, but we’ll concentrate on his opposite number today.

After finishing one of the greatest rookie quarterback seasons in recent memory, CJ Stroud helped the Texans return to the postseason for the first time since 2019.

In the season’s first game on Saturday, the fourth-seeded Texans are the underdogs, but if Stroud maintains the composure he has displayed so far, he won’t be shaken by the moment and can guide his team to an unexpected victory.

Josh Allen – Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills have had an unusual season; just a month ago, they appeared to be headed for elimination, but they have since put together a five-game winning streak and secured their spot in the postseason.

Josh Allen, the quarterback, has undoubtedly played a major role in their recovery, but it doesn’t mean there haven’t been problems. In their Week 18 victory over Miami, the quarterback made three mistakes, and the Pittsburgh defence will be waiting to take advantage of any errors he makes.

The outcome of the game thus probably depends on Allen’s ability to produce more spectacular plays than mistakes, even though TJ Watt’s injury is a major setback for the Steelers.

CeeDee Lamb – Dallas Cowboys

Next, the Cowboys go to Dallas to play the Green Bay Packers. Although Dak Prescott’s MVP candidature has garnered a lot of attention in Texas, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is largely responsible for his recent excellent performances.

Currently riding one of the greatest receiver hot streaks of all time, the fourth-year wideout has scored in his last nine games—a feat not accomplished by any other player at his position in over ten years. With 1,749 receiving yards at the end of the season, Lamb ranks eighth among all players in an NFL season, so Joe Barry, the defensive coordinator for the Packers, will have his job cut out for him trying to slow him down.

Matthew Stafford – LA Rams

The Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Rams game on Sunday night promises a tonne of storylines, with Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff facing off against teams they previously played for. Rams supporters should be pleased that Sean McVay devised a strategy for Goff, but Stafford’s involvement seems like the more intriguing development in this situation.

The main matchup here is the Rams offence against the Lions defence, and Stafford will be essential in leading a youthful team that includes rookie sensation Puca Nacua over a resilient Lions defensive that consistently steps up when necessary.

Jalen Hurts – Philadelphia Eagles

When Thanksgiving first arrived, it was unimaginable that Tampa Bay would defeat Philadelphia in the playoffs. However, the Eagles have been losing ground like a stone in recent weeks, and the oddsmakers hardly have them as favourites going to Florida.

The Eagles’ passing game must click in order for them to win, despite the fact that injuries have been plaguing Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, and DeVonta Smith in recent weeks.

Hurts will probably need to go to the air and regain his early-season magic if the Eagles are to arrest this downward trend and avoid being a one-and-done in the postseason since the Bucs will try to dominate the clock with their potent rushing game.
