After suffering an injury during the preseason, Christopher Nkunku has not yet made a Premier League appearance for Chelsea, although he is making progress in his recuperation.
Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku is expected to return to light training as he recovers from a knee injury. The Frenchman is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Blues following his £52million move to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.
Nkunku scored 16 goals and provided 6 assists in 25 Bundesliga games last season. The Frenchman enjoyed a promising pre-season with the Blues before suffering a knee injury which has seen him miss every game of the 2023/24 campaign so far.
However, there is optimism that Nkunku could return to action in 2024 as his recovery accelerates. According to Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, this summer’s deal will see Nkunku split his time between Paris, where he will visit specialists, and London, where he will recover and undergo physiotherapy.
The 25-year-old is close to returning to cardio training, a crucial step in his return to first-team training.
“Chelsea will soon begin light training with him before returning him to full training,” Phillips wrote.
“They (Chelsea) will be very cautious and cautious as they try to get Nkunku back into training and into the squad.
But now I feel good and my recovery is going well. Soon we will be able to see him again in the Chelsea training kit. At least, from the appropriate selection.”
Over the previous few months, Nkunku has posted numerous updates on social media about his injury recuperation, including images of himself working out. Mauricio Pochettino is thrilled with the Frenchman’s return to light training, and when he returns completely fit, there’s no doubt about Nkunku’s immense impact on the team.
