Kylian Mbappe is so far unwilling to sign a contract extension to stay at PSG
PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi stressed that the striker will not leave for free
Liverpool fans have taken to social media to scoff at reports from Spain that their club has made a staggering £170million offer to sign PSG superstar Kylian Mbappé.
Mbappé is believed to be for sale. The striker does not want to extend his contract, which expires next summer, and the French club do not intend to let him leave without a hitch.
Real Madrid have long been eyeing their most likely destination when they leave the Parc des Princes, but the Blancos may not be able to afford it these days.
And Spanish journalist Edu Aguirre has now claimed that Liverpool have launched a club-record bid to beat Real Madrid.
Speaking to El Chiringuito TV, Aguirre said: ‘What has happened in the PSG offices in the last few hours is that an offer has arrived from Liverpool. “Liverpool came on the scene. Liverpool made an offer of 200 million euros for Mbappé.
“Liverpool’s offer that arrived in the PSG offices in these hours is 200 million euros. Nasser Al-Khelaifi has offered Mbappé for sale.”
However, fans aren’t convinced by the bizarre claim.
“Did someone tell them who the owners are?” one Liverpool fan wrote while another shared a photo of Mbappé signing a video game with the caption “only way Liverpool can get Mbappé”.
“Who will tell them,” another replied in response to the news, wondering how they could afford such a fee if they struggle to meet the £50m asking price for Romeo Lavia.
“We want him to stay, but he can’t go for nothing,” Al-Khelaifi said during the presentation of new coach Luis Enrique.
“There was a verbal agreement and he had discussed it in an interview.” And I was really shocked to learn that he decided to go there for free.
“It’s very disappointing because Mbappé is a fantastic boy, a real gentleman and he goes on a free transfer and weakens the biggest club in France, it’s not him. When I heard the news, I I was shocked and disappointed.”
“It’s up to him to decide for himself next week or at most in the next two weeks,” Al-Khelaifi continued. And if he doesn’t want to sign a new contract, the door is open.
“It’s like that for him and for everyone else.” No one is bigger than the club, no player, not even me. It’s very clear.
“According to football standards, you never see the best player leave for nothing. It just doesn’t happen.
“We don’t want to let the best player in the world go for nothing, it’s impossible.” PSG is a French club, it’s their city and he’s already said he doesn’t want to go there for nothing.
“If someone made him change his mind today, it’s not my fault.”
