Is There a Chance Cowboys Star DeMarvion Overshown Returns Sooner Than Anticipated?

DeMarvion Overshown

The Dallas Cowboys received devastating news earlier this month when promising linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was sidelined for the season due to a serious knee injury.

Overshown tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL in his right knee during a Monday Night Football game against the Bengals. He underwent surgery later that week to repair the damage.

At first, the outlook for Overshown seemed bleak, with many concerned that the injury could keep him out for all of the 2025 season.

However, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the prognosis for the second-year player might be more optimistic than initially thought. Reports suggest that, following a successful surgery this week, Overshown could make a comeback as early as midseason next year.

Overshown had become a fan favorite and a respected leader in the Cowboys’ locker room, admired by his teammates for his relentless play.

“I cried,” said Micah Parsons, one of the Cowboys’ star players, reflecting on the injury. “It’s like my little bro, bro. He doesn’t deserve that, either. He really doesn’t. Just to understand what he’s going to go through and to be there for him physically, and mentally. It’s just so challenging because of the year he was having. I really just don’t think that’s fair, either.”

Before the injury, Overshown had tallied 90 total tackles, five sacks, and an interception that he returned for a touchdown.

Jerry Jones says the Dallas Cowboys locker room is not lost

Jerry Jones says the Dallas Cowboys locker room is not lost.

After 11 weeks, the 2024 Dallas Cowboys season appears to be a failure. With a 3-7 record and five consecutive losses, the Cowboys have only a 1% chance of reaching the playoffs, according to NFL.com.

The team’s primetime loss to the Houston Texans on Monday left owner and general manager Jerry Jones thinking similarly to the rest of the sports world. “We just aren’t playing well, and it’s several things,” he remarked after the game.

There are issues at every position, and injuries have compounded the problems. Seeing quarterback Dak Prescott on crutches emphasized that the team’s hope for a successful season faded when he underwent hamstring surgery. Nevertheless, his teammates appreciated his presence.

“It shows his selflessness. It speaks volumes to the person, the player, and the leader that Dak is,” said wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

Unfortunately, Prescott’s support didn’t help backup QB Cooper Rush and the Cowboys’ offense. Rush completed just 56.5% of his passes (13 of 23) for 45 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles. The following week, against the Texans, he threw for 354 yards but completed only 58.2% (32 of 55) of his passes. The offense managed just 10 points, all in the first half.

Running back Rico Dowdle couldn’t find any success on the ground, and the Cowboys almost doubled their pass attempts compared to Rush’s first start. Despite this, third-string QB Trey Lance seems no closer to making his first start in Dallas.

“I would look for us to stay with the experience,” Jones stated.

While the Cowboys could use major changes, they won’t come from the coaching staff this season. The front office remains supportive of head coach Mike McCarthy. According to Jones, the locker room is not lost.

“I can tell you right now with the kind of careers a bunch of those guys have, the kind of prospects of their futures, the kind of competitors they are, I don’t worry one ounce about losing anything as far as in the family of losing the team,” Jones explained.
