Jalen Hale Shines in Spring Practice After Recovering from Back Injury, Strengthening Alabama’s Wide Receiver Corps
Alabama wide receiver Jalen Hale is making a significant impact in spring practice after bouncing back from a lower back injury that kept him sidelined during the 2024 season. Hale’s return adds another layer of depth to an already stacked receiving group for the Crimson Tide.
Hale, who made a memorable 33-yard touchdown catch in 2023 against the Mississippi Rebels, has wasted no time showing his skill and determination. The former four-star recruit from Texas is playing with confidence and has been turning heads among teammates. Brayson Hubbard, Alabama’s safety, spoke highly of Hale’s progress.
“I like Jalen Hale,” Hubbard said. “He got hurt last year, but he’s balling right now. He’s doing a great job. He’s locked in, and the whole receiver room is attacking, even with some guys dealing with injuries.”
Despite a quieter freshman season where he recorded 148 yards and one touchdown on five receptions, Hale’s ability to contribute as a first-year player at Alabama is a strong indicator of his potential under the guidance of Nick Saban.
Nick Sheridan, Alabama’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, praised Hale’s resilience and positive attitude, which have had a contagious effect on the team.
“It’s just been great to have him back out there,” Sheridan said Friday. “Everything he’s been through—the perseverance, the grit, the toughness. The kid loves football. He’s had a big smile, and his presence has uplifted everyone around him. We’re just thankful he’s back with us.”

With the departure of several receivers, including Kobe Prentice, Caleb Odom, and Kendrick Law, the competition for spots in Alabama’s receiving room has been fierce. However, the receivers who remained, like Ryan Williams, Germaine Bernard, and Jalen Hale, have made sure the group remains formidable. Hale’s return only enhances the unit’s talent and depth.
In addition, Alabama bolstered the receiving corps by bringing in Isaiah Horton from Miami (FL) via the Transfer Portal, and two freshmen, Lotzier Brooks and Derek Meadows, who will compete for playing time.
